When I started going to track days, the R15 was the king of the pit lane. They were everywhere, and everyone who wanted to get serious about riding had one. Since I quickly moved on to instructing, I was often riding R15s as a coach. And those were brilliant days. Because it felt like it was impossible to make a mistake on the nippy little Yamaha. Mechanically as well as while you tried new things to see if you could find the next step for your skills. A colleague and I, a few years later also attended the California Superbike School with identical v2 R15s and had a three-day blast. We went impressively enough for our coach to tell us that had we been on R6s instead, he (on a CBR600RR) would have had a hard time keeping up to watch us. I'm sure Darren Sweetman was being polite but that's the beauty of the R15. It's like a warm hug of a sportsbike. What memories riding the motorcycle in this story brought back. This is the strength of the Yamaha brand, and it's engineering. The thing we'd like to see a lot more of. Oh and we've just started releasing detailed videos on the R15. Here's where you'll find them Yamaha R15 FAQ kzbin.info/aero/PLr0Tor0L-2JO1o08N8PC1HCl65WDGBObz

I saw this bike on the college parking lot, that was 2008 - looked so small, so docile, and the first ride was just as expected, till I saw the first corner, and then I wanted to go on to the next corner, I was 21.. I was going to live forever, and this was it, this would go along with me to the next corner, but alas I could not afford it then. Today I am 35, I can afford this, but now I also know I may not live forever. But damn, this bike still makes me feel like I am 21, and my first heartbreak was just a few glances away 😀

Not only the way this motorcycle handles and the chassis. The engine has so much potential which can do triple digit speeds and by this I mean keep up with the 400s on a weekend ride (yes been to leh with my 390 buddies on the v3) while returning 50+kmpl that's not only looks good but surpasses expectations of the average India guy asking "kitna deti hai?" They really need to come up with something like RT15 which is more like a touring spec version 🐥

Bought the V3 abs with my very first salary back in 2019, It's been three years and my heart still skips a beat, when i take a corner or hit that VVA sweet spot of 6k rpm or more, Adventure bikes are surely luring people for what they offer these days, but man this one is a keeper for sure, i would just keep this for the rest of my life even if i get to include anyother. Also shumi, karthikeya and the whole motorinc team, thanks for what you are doing.. These videos about life, motorcycles and your experiences are surely driving me and a lot of young motorcyclists to be responsible and is helping us to look forward in finding our better selves everyday. At the end as you say every bike can take you wherever you want in its best capacity, however its all about how you aspire to reach there and what all you want to take back and carry along with you for the rest of your life makes the difference. PS:Its my first comment on youtube ever since, felt like putting out what i feel about your work and your contribution to my wellbeing directly or indirectly. I wish more people or channels respect everyone's time like you do and contribute something good to them instead of selling some random face wash or behave as if an average indian biker/motorcyclist is a dumb brainless idiot with free internet at his disposal to watch all that BS!! day in and day out. I wish you a great health, tremendous success and many more kms on your motorcycles. Rachh!!

Proud owner of a 2011 R15 version 1 in blue here. Have done solo rides of upto 700 kms a day on this beauty with luggage and with absolutely zero problems. Living in a hill-station for work for almost ten years, my favorite time of the week was Sunday mornings, when I would ride past the ghats for a simple breakfast. Still riding this beauty in Bangalore traffic where it weaves through traffic with such ease, although this is not where the bike truly belongs. It takes even the bad Bangalore roads in its stride, without any major fuss. I call my bike the 'Yamasutra'. ;-) I have started looking around for an upgrade, mostly among the 250-400cc class bikes, but nothing I have test-ridden so far came close to the satisfaction the R15 gives. The Yamaha R15 is the gold standard of 150cc motorcycles.

The only regret I had when I had my R15 V3 was not taking it on track. Two reasons why brought this bike was for track use and touring. Although I completed the touring part the track side remains empty. But people get shocked when I say I felt most comfortable while touring on my R15 V3. The handling, the engine mamia! It's crazy how a 155CC bike can easily cruise at 100-110kmph all day without any or less to minimum vibrations and can maintain that speed. It's the reason why I always believe that the quote- "there's no replacement for displacement" is not always true. Glad I had my time with my dream machine which was my 10 years dream. Now being in Canada I might start biking soon but sure I will go for either R3 or RC390.

I owned MT15 for almost 3+ years Best bike for city use and if you want to take it for long trips then best cruising speed would be 70-90km/hr What i felt as cons were: 1. Suspension was hard and the seat cushion too. 50kms of riding and you can feel the back burn. 2. When crossing speeds of 90km/h felt like the engine was under stress and need to put more effort though VVA was On. 3. Sound could have been better ( atleast like in Apache) 4. ABS lacks the bite and sometimes it can make you feel less confident durin braking. 5. Pillion seat could have been a little more bigger/ rider seat could have been made a little smaller. Other than that it was one of the best bikes i owned. The Looks are great and if you're good at modifying then you can take this bike to another level, great mileage in city and even in highway (if cruising speed is betweeen 60-80),Good engine refinement (but i think Honda engines are more refined than Yamahas), better seating position.

I don’t know what yamaha had done with R15 ….i have 2014 R15v2 and 2023 R15v4 i can’t say no to ride these machines❤❤

Proud Owner of currently Yamaha R15V3 and Yamaha Fazer V2 both are fuel injection bikes… I myself motorcycle mechanic from pune. These bikes from Yamaha are pure gold if you know your use , what I mean is eventually after few time there will be issues with every machine but the refined engine Yamaha makes is beyond what we could achieve (I felt)… I mean such pocket friendly and lovable bikes never felt with other bikes and this might sound biased but it’s real. I owned Tvs Apache , Bajaj Ns but first bike was Fz16 so eventually after that bike got to know what Japanese are capable of ❤ Thanks😊

@@motorinc I feel irritated when I think about test rides, all thanks to TVS. In 2019 When I was in Kolkata, I visited two biggest showrooms closest to my location for test ride of Apache 200. Both denied me. Now in 2023 I am in the eastern most part of Assam and using the TVS website's Book a Test Ride option, I booked a test ride twice, but zero action. If TVS is least bothered about a prospective customer then imagine their after sales service.

I learnt how to ride motorcycles in January last year on my friend's hand-me-down R15 v2, a red-and-white version. He had had it for a few months at that point, but I was too intimidated by its dimensions to think I could ride it. But he encouraged me, told me it's easy, and taught me how to ride like someone teaching a toddler to take its first steps. That shit was so easy, man. It's SO "learner-friendly" that even someone who doesn't know anything at all about riding geared motorcycles can still hop on it and be better at the skill by the time they get off. It was almost a 10 year-old machine when I first used it but it was still so welcoming. Everything was so easy to operate and so forgiving. I regret not spending more time with it, as he sold it in order to buy his new XPulse a few months after I got my own Raider, my first bike. At that time in the beginning, I had no confidence, especially with someone else's bike, so I certainly couldn't explore anywhere close to its capabilities. But whatever increase in confidence I had whenever I did get a few minutes to ride it around my neighbourhood was very substantial and very helpful in the future. I would go so far as to say that I wouldn't have been able to learn so easily even on a basic commuter bike. A few months later in May, I even managed to ride a Himalayan for a fairly long distance in Salt Lake, Kolkata, without much practice after learning on the R15. There's really something special about this bike, I wish I get to ride it again soon.

I was not sure about riding a sports bike when i decided to sell my fzs v3 and buy a new bike but always wanted to ride one and only couple of kms test riding r15 v4 i was sure of buying r15m and I'm glad that i bought this bike last year. I have done 13000 kms on it rode for more than 600 kms on one day manali to Chandigarh and back still never felt anything that i can't manage on this brilliant machine. Would keep it with for years. And the best part is exceptional mileage this bike gives I'm getting much higher mileage that's too riding much faster on this what i used to get from my fz.

Would like to hear your insight about gixxer sf 250 as it falls under the same price category .. Can it be used as a sports tourer as it got better displacement than r15 but it falls short on several parameters like refinement, aerodynamics and that so called oil cooled engine which suzuki boasts of to keep costs under check... Wanna hear your point of view about this underrated motorcycle😊
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
Of course it can! To us, though, it's not a sportsbike... more like a faired sporty commuter, which has pros and cons

Love you work and truly a legendary motorcycle! I wish Yamaha added a 250 cc single to this so that it could slot between the R15 and the upcoming expensive R3. The R15 is great but there are so many 200cc and 250cc in the market that are cheaper and more practical.
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
Then it would properly be a quarter-R1! So cool!

@@motorinc I found out that in Indonesia and maybe the Phillipines, they have the 250cc versions of these bikes, namely R-25 and MT-25, except they have twin cylinder engines. Why do you think we are getting the 03's instead of the 25's? I think our people would appreciate the 250cc versions more.
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
The SEAsea 250s are because of a tax regulation that makes them cheaper in those markets. Everywhere else, the 321s are what Yamaha sells

I don't get a chance to own an r15 untill now... But I'm sure I can buy every r15 released untill now in used market, get the service done and keep them in my garge... I'll buy every r15 untill the lineup ends or untill i die😂❤

R15S is also worth checking, about 20-25k cheaper than the base V4 but loses out on inverted forks (makes up with 41mm fork diameter compared to 38mm?) and track modes and some bluetooth features. It does have the comfier seat and a sleek matte black paint job. With the saved 20k perhaps PPF or an aftermarket quickshifter?

Owning R15M , at start I was worried about it's comfort and pillion comfort too but now after 8 months of using it and clocking close to 9000kms on it, I feel like it's perfect for me...I have never regretted my decision at all. I am college going student of 20 yrs old. I have done long rides(450 kms) with dense traffic (50 kms) solo, it never gave me any trouble at all. Yeah pillion comfort is a bit of a issue but it's not that big... it's manageable tbh depends on your pillion. Have touched 153 without any discomfort or imbalance ... it was super steady and easily could touch 155-157(after 1st service with only 2500-2700kms) but there was traffic ahead so I had to apply brakes. Anyone confused between MT15 and R15...the road presence of R15 is a lot more eye catching than MT. A lot of people asked me about bike whenever I am out for a ride and I get many eyeballs towards me while riding with my MT friend. But yeah MT is much comfortable than R15 particularly for pillions.

@shu_mar I’m 36 and I have been riding a 2005 pulsar 150 for 18 years now and have done about 85000kms with it. It doesn’t excite me anymore so have been contemplating a replacement for a while now. I liked the R15M a lot but don’t know if I need to wait for R3 or just go for the R15M. I’m not sure if I need an upgrade or just a more up-to-date replacement to the pulsar 150. Please help me decide.

My father bought me my first bike the R15 v1 in 2009.. I learnt how to ride a bike on it from scratch and i can't tell you how much it helped me. I bought my second bike in 2018 a dominar 400 for touring and cover long distances.. though it had the power to wow me over the R15 it lacked every other characteristic like the handling..the braking almost everything apart from straight line performance.. After 14 years today I'm selling my dominar because I don't enjoy it as much as I do the R15 till date..I'm faster on my way to my studio on the R15, not the Dominar. I'm gonna keep it as long as the govt allows me.. and yes I still have skinny tyres on it😅
