How about designing a door like they have on Star Trek? Making it fast and quiet would be a challenge!

@@thang010146 The doors on set were opened and closed with someone pulling ropes skillfully, to mimic the acceleration and deceleration of a machine. Most likely they had a rope in each hand, one for opening, one for closing, that could also be used to brake the moving door.
