Motorola Astro Spectra Siren

Got a speaker. A demo with 2 different amplifiers. They sound the same though.

I’m overjoyed to finally find an actual high quality, and full demo of this siren. Other demos of this siren were either way too short, or had terrible audio quality. Definitely one of my favorite sirens of all time! Has such a classic sound to it.

I need to figure out how to convert an old Spectra unit to use the W9 head, have all of the adapters for the main body but I need someone to do some bit banging in the MFM module so the radio recognizes the W9 head. Yes this Real Old stuff but it’s fine for amateur use.

Chicago Fire Department used this siren between 1996 and 2001. The old Ford/McCoy Miller Ambulances from the 90s have this siren along with the 2000 E-One 100' Rearmount Aerial Ladder Trucks and the 2000 HME/Central States Squads. The three 2001 Spartan Advantage/Luverne engines also have this siren. LAFD, the Seattle Fire Department and the Charlotte Fire Department also use this siren.

I would if I could. The reason why I didn't demonsrate the manual tone is because it's not as simple as pressing the button. You need to wire it up to the horn ring for it to work. I'll do it once I figure it out though.

Well overall it's pretty simple. You just need a radio brick, the cable going to the control head from the radio, the cable from the siren amplfieir to radio, then hook up your DEK to the control head. You then need to program the radio in order for each function to work. The siren WILL not work if the radio is not programmed correctly.

Yes. It can be programmed to do so.

@@sirendude the yelp can even be programmed to be temporarily activated by the press of the button at the steering wheel and run for 5-7 seconds before it goes back to hi-lo, just like the swedish police siren

@@BlackieFoxxless Yes. I haven't checked the software in a while, but I believe CPS allows you to program the horn ring function for it to change to yelp. The Motorola is very versatile, besides the fact that it requires a radio to operate and is being phased out.

I can assure you I'm allowed to own it. It's not installed on any vehicles and simply a collection piece. No law prevents me from owning a siren or light.
