Thank you, nice clear video for what I want (replacing usb port). Although I don't need to remove the main board, if I did, do I need to replace the paste and pads please? Thank you.
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. You can always scrape off the thermal paste that is there and re apply it to make sure it has a good spread but if the thermal paste is old, best to replace it just in case. I would go with a low conductive thermal paste since I wouldn't want to risk a short if the thermal paste spreads and touches parts its not suppose to.

I know that this phone is splash-proof but not officially water-resistant. Based on your tear-down how water resistant do you think the phone is? Do you think the construction would allow the phone to survive a short drop in water? Thanks so much
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't risk it, but the phone has a rubber gasket around the charger port and sim tray, but no gaskets around the connectors inside etc. I would say it probably would survive a quick dunk but not if it stays submerged. Also depends how deep of a level of water its being dunked into.

Yea its held on with adhesive, so you should be able to heat up the glass portion of the lens cover and pry it off without having to take apart the phone. Replacements should come with adhesive on them so you would be able to just re apply the replacement.

Thanks mate, today I totalled my phone underneath a 20 tonne machine at work. Only bought it last week 😬. I any advice on changing the screen. I know the adhesive between the glass and screen is a nightmare.
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
Use a hair dryer to heat up the screen to loosen up the adhesive, if its already broken should be easy to pry off in the sense that you don't care about damaging the screen since its already broken. You can also order a LCD and frame combo so you dont need to pry off the screen, just disassemble the phone and put your parts onto the new frame and screen and re-assemble it. Here is a link for one on ebay www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Display-Touch-Screen-Frame-For-Motorola-Moto-G8-Plus-XT2019-XT2019-1-2-Tools/233622407156?hash=item3664fb07f4:g:VYoAAOSwFdRe6YtX

@@PBKreviews thank you very much for taking the time to help me out, I really do appreciate it. Well I bought a screen and digitaliser without the frame as that was all I could find in the UK market. I'm going to change that and see the extent of the damage. It fell out my pocket on a 20 tonne dumper and went straight under the wheel being crushed by stones on top of the tarmac. The screen is still displaying colour but that's about it. Heard a few sounds coming from it so might be ok. Also one thing I'd like to ask is (after watching your video through again); do you think I would be able to get that strip cable from the screen through the frame without taking the battery out?

Hi can you tell me where the primary antenna is? I've not been getting a signal since a USB port repair and I keep getting conflicting information that it's either those cables running by the battery or embedded into the NFC antenna
@PBKreviews2 жыл бұрын
There are usually more than one antenna for signal but if you replaced the sub board on the bottom which has the usb port, you need to make sure to get the correct model one since model numbers vary for different regions where the phone is sold, and the antenna contacts on that sub board which touch parts of the frame etc are different for different regions. So if you used a different model/region sub board its possible the reason for your issue or if you used a cheap aftermarket one which is not working well. For example this phone in this link, there is a -2 after the model number. You need to make sure the part you're buying has the correct region code which might be -1 -3 or -4 etc. rounded.com/motorola-moto-g8-plus-xt2019-2-sub-pba-board-flash-5p68c15643.html?sl=en

Hi there, great video, it really helped me on changing a damaged screen on my G8 Plus, The battery was very difficult to get out though....On putting it back together, I noticed a couple of small rubber square ish cases which I don't know where they came from, and ideas? Plus the 2 small wire which come from the charging board and go to the main board with little gold connectors on the end, one of them has pulled off (don't know what they do) do you know where I could get one or 2 from? Not sure I'll be able to put the little connector back on the wire, cheers
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure what the black pieces you're referring to are, maybe if you can upload some pics online and link them I can look. As for the wires, usually the wire cables (Coaxial cables) are used for wifi and or cell signal/antennas. I've seen them used for other things like buttons and so forth on different phone's but for this phone it's most likely an antenna or wifi cable. You can test out your phone and see which is not working or working poorly. Not sure where to find those exact cables for that phone but you can try to see if you can find ones from a previous gen phone like the moto g7 and see if it would be the same length and work. Don't think they have the replacements for the g8 yet.

What you call vapor chambers are likely just plain copper sheets used to conduct heat. There are certainly phones that contain vapor chambers, but not at this price point. Samsung S7 and onwards contain actual vapor chambers.

Can you please do a tutorial for replacing the screen?
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
The screen is held down with adhesive. Once you disassemble the phone and pry off the battery (which is also held down with adhesive, just heat it up slightly and gently pry it off using a membership card or something you can get under the battery with, just no metal tools) you just need to apply heat to the screen to loosen the adhesive underneath and pry it off and apply new adhesive to the frame, run your new screen cable through the midframe and reattach your screen and re assemble the phone.

I don't understand if it is necessary to remove the whole motherboard if I want only to change the battery.
@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
Hi, no, you just need to disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard and you can pry the battery off. (you can apply heat from the screen side to loosen up the adhesive under the battery a bit, or you can use 99% isopropyl alcohol to get some around the sides of the battery and let it sit for a minute so it eats away at the adhesive underneath and makes it easier to pry the battery off).

@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
Is it on the front side of the phone or back of the phone? If front it could be the screen heating up but if it's getting too hot then might be something up not sure exactly. If its the back of the phone might be some minor water damage causing it.

yea but the power button flex is routed through the midframe so you would need to disassemble the phone as shown in the video as well as pry off the screen from the frame to gain access to removing the power button itself and the flex cable for it. That means there is a chance you can damage the screen.

I dropped my moto g8 plus today, the screen is cracked, but not too badly, but a bigger problem is basically the digitizer which is basically fucked, the as screen is all red and pink and black and it's not responsive to touches, and also another unknown problem is the sound is muffled and has a weird echo effect?
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
Its possible the speaker got damaged or some of the glass punctured it if its broken badly enough. Or sometimes metal shavings get attached to the speaker since its magnetic and cause weird noises.
