TIP: When dealing with shattered glass screens/back, it's best to use a few good lengths of tape (or a sheet of adhesive/cheapo screen protector) over the damaged bits (or just the over the entire surface area period) to contain as much bits as possible and provide a small level of safety in not getting cut.

Denatured alcohol (ethyl/methyl) works better than ispopropyl. Glad to hear that Motorola uses a "more reasonable" adhesive for the back. I like these phones 'cause they still have an FM Tuner. Have any in the repair community considered *polycarbonate* for screen replacements? I know it's not as "nice" as glass, but it's sure a lot more durable!

This is why plastic back is superior instead of glass back. Sure, the environmental impact and the "non-premium" feeling on flagships is a real issue, but I would trade off a premium feeling flagship while having a durable one 😎 I have dropped my phone a couple times and thanks to a plastic back and a case, my phone is completely fine.
@giomjava3 жыл бұрын
I'd wager that plastic backing is probably better environmentally that glass, considering how often glass breaks and that its manufacturing also contributes to emissions.

One tip, when you are glueing LCD, put the glue on the frame, and then put LCD into the frame, glue that won't be needed will come out the frame and after it cures you can just peel it with your fingers. Good video anyway 5/5

My wife and kids had the G7 and G8 plus models. I've done a few screen replacements myself. The biggest annoyance is the ribbon cable going under the chassis meaning you have to remove the battery and back panel to swap the screen out. Other than that it's a fairly easy repair.

I like to commend you on doing your part in fighting planned obsolescence and shedding light on questionable corporate product design, as i just saw you on a recent Louis Rossman vid, what i do like to add to the conversation is that Planned Obsolescence is only one part of the problem, as "Perceived Obsolescence" something created by corporations nurturing consumer habits is even more problematic: since "image" is such an important factor in purchasing a new phone or tech product, people are now willing to buy a new 1000+$ phone with incremental unnecessary upgrades, and try to justify their purchase by citing said unnecessary upgrades all for the sake of having the attention of the room for 5 mins. This is actually where we're at, and if this isn't fixed, then there is no point in products being durable for 1000 years if the consumer replaces them after 1 year. Which brings me to my next point: Why don't you try to get your hands on a Samsung Galaxy Fieldpro, or a Motorola LEX device, and demonstrate what the Industry is actually capable of, but refuses to serve us for their own profits?

What is the point of battery adhesive anyway? It is not like the battery will bang around inside such a confined space? I replaced the battery on my iPhone 6s Plus over a year ago without applying new thermal adhesive strips and have not had any issues. I have good battery life and no sound of the battery jiggling around inside when shaken.
@PvtAnonymous3 жыл бұрын
especially on Samsung phones, where they use some of the strongest adhesive to keep their batteries in place. I usually use the rest of the glue (which is about 5% of the original adhesion) and it never rattles or disconnects or anything. Over 200 Samsung phones repaired, not one customer ever complained. Goes to show that it is completely unnecessary to use such strong adhesive on batteries and is probably done to fight repairs, since most consumers would give up on this task (and bring it to Samsung probably).
@LaserFur3 жыл бұрын
yea. I didn't bother with adhesive when replacing the battery on my Zforce
@ErickBuildsStuff3 жыл бұрын
The reason why they didn't sell you the replacement screen is dependent on IMEI. Different regions have different certifications to qualify. Even the quality also varies from region to region. Nevertheless, they should not discriminate based on the region since it's just replacement part.

I used to be a fan of Motorola phones with the early Moto Gs and Moto Zs, but they've gone the route of crippling phones by leaving out or crippling certain features, like the G7 Power with it's awesomely huge battery but no compass, making it completely useless for any navigation stuff or tracking sports etc. ... things where the huge battery would actually be a plus. Or them going backwards from Dual-SIM support *AND* a microSD slot to shared slot garbage so you can have _either_ Dual-SIM _or_ single SIM and microSD. And the more I look at their product stack, the more phones I discover that seem to be designed like "let's give them everything they ask for but screw up ONE feature". _Really_ disappointing
