@PBKreviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi, its been a long time since this video, so I am not 100% sure but looks like the battery would also need to be removed to give you access to removing the flex cable with fingerprint scanner. It's probably adhered to the frame with adhesive tape, so you may need to gently pry it off.

Sorry for such a late reply to your video, my wife and I still have this device lol! Thank you for the very intuitive video... I want to ask that wasn't mentioned, where on the motherboard may I find the internal memory? And do you think transplanting the motherboard from Device A (wife's broken Z3) to the same Device B (my operating phone) would work to access my wife's apps and files?

The plastic connector that is mounted on the board for the charger port? Ya Its soldered on there. Would need someone who is familiar with soldering to put it back on. Most repair shops should be able to do it.

I was hoping you'd take the battery out. In trying to replace mine now. Seems to be stuck on the opposite side with adhesive? Do I need to pry it up or perhaps I haven't torn it down enough?
@DashCamSamVids5 жыл бұрын
Yeah so I tore it all down and turns out the battery has two strips of double sided sticky tape. I was afraid to pry to hard but I think it would have been fine to just open up and finesse it from the back panel being mindful of the fingerprint scanner. Thanks so much for this video. I especially appreciate you showing how to put it back together!

Hey, thanks for your teardown video, i want to ask if you could show how to replace the fingerprint sensor, please
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
no problem. I currently don't have one on hand to guide you through it, but the battery would have to be removed in order to gain access to removing it from what I remember, and there would either be a metal bracket holding it in place that you would have to remove or adhesive you would have to pry/push off after removing the metal bracket. Hope this helps.
@kmimen4 жыл бұрын
@@PBKreviews thanks a lot. I could remove the fingerprint sensor just carefully pushing it from a little cavity covered by the flex of the volume button.

Is the rear camera pretty easy to remove from the main board?
@PBKreviews5 жыл бұрын
Yes, once you remove that plastic cover on top covering the top of the board, you can pull the camera assembly out of the housing toward you to revel the connector that you have to lift up the latch and pull the flex cable out. Not hard at all.

I can't seem to find a Z3 screen anywhere, only Z3 Play screens, but they look exactly the same and as far as I know the phones are the exact same other than the processor. What type of screen assembly should I order for Xt1929-17? Should I just use Xt1929 in general or should I use Xt1929-17 exact?
@PBKreviews6 жыл бұрын
As long as it's a moto z3 and not z3 play screen you should be fine. The -17 doesn't matter too much usually, basically each carrier version would have a different number to the end of the model number say one from overseas compared to one from USA etc. But main thing is as long as the screen is listed as a Moto Z3 and not Z3 play , then it will be the exact same fit.

After replacing the screen, will the new screen adhesive work or will it need more adhesive? My wife and I have moto z3s. I cracked my screen a few days after buying it. The insurance I had is a joke. They sent me a phone but it was a refurbished model. I declined it and decided to live with a cracked screen. Recently my wife went swimming with hers. Now it's toast. I want to replace my cracked screen with her good screen.
@PBKreviews5 жыл бұрын
In some cases yes, the original adhesive will work as long as its not damaged too much or touched when taking the screen off. Basically as long as you deem it sticky enough and its not all over the place, you should be able to re-use it just apply some heat after installing the new screen and let it cool down to make a stronger bond. As for the liquid damaged phone, make sure the screen is usable, because its possible the water may have damaged the screen or have corrosion on the back of the screen components, burned cable possibly etc. Those are common issues with screens when the phone is liquid damaged.
@BillAnt4 жыл бұрын
They sell factory adhesive for just a couple of dollars, specifically pre-cut for this phone (and most other phones). Reusing the original tape, no matter how sticky it is, there are usually some small gaps in it, rendering it non-waterproof.

Hi! I saw there are websites selling only the glass panel(phoneremedies.com/collections/moto-z3-play-screen-replacement-kits/products/motorola-moto-z3-play-glass-screen-replacement-premium-repair-kit-xt1929-black) without digitizer and display itself. Is it even possible to separate glass from the display and replace it with new? My phone only has broken glass and touch & display work well. Also, originally, the display is Super AMOLED. If I buy from 3rd parties(like some links that you've mentioned here in comments), would these also be Super AMOLED? Since many of these say LCD on websites... Thanks in advance!

Have you made sure everything was in place properly and connected properly? Also if you have a moto mod battery add on with a charger port on it as well, you can test and see if you can charge the phone via that method and see if your charger port has gone bad.

Not meaning to be rude, but you could have explained the reason on why you had to take so much out of phone to get to the battery. Second you could have taken the battery out to show us.
@PBKreviews4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to disassemble the entire phone, just remove the screen and peel off the graphite film over the battery so you can disconnect the battery cable. Then use a hair dryer to heat up the back glass area of the phone so it heats up the adhesive under the battery so it will make it easier to pry off.

Motorola really does have some great engineering. Too bad the screen on the Z3/Play is garbage. Had to return two of them because the top half of the screen was greener then the bottom.

Guess it was not a screen problem. I had the same issue with the default launcher, guess is something with the notification bar. It was really annoying me because I like oled screens and black wallpapers, so I just switch to Nova Launcher, problem solved. It's not only on motorola, if you google it you will find Pixel users with the same problem.

I feel ya! My Z2 I never had the screen break until the very end of its life. I had it almost 2 years and it never broke till like a month that before my husband talked me into the Z3. The Z3 broke like a week after I got it. Literally only dropped a foot from the floor and it landed face down on hardwood floor and broke into a million pieces. and then today I dropped it from the same height on a pillow which it then fell on the floor and now the LCD is shattered. So mad!!!
