so far ive got 5 systems programmed on my xts5000. ( 4) p25 phase 1 systems and (1) smartzone II system.. 16 zones, with the channel knob as zone selector with each zone having a scan list of 10 trunking groups..so far so good and no affiliation..( each zone has 16 conventional channels, with 17 to whatever with tg's..over 560 trunking groups programmed over the 5 systems...lookinh for a multiband radio with phase 2 trunking for upcoming system upgrades..thinking of the Harris or BK options..but,where can the software for the BK and/ or Harris be obtained without spending a fortune??

Question? I have xts 5000 and 2500 has set up in NAS, for Marc's IP. Some of the agencies use 700 freqs. For some reason I am picking up departments in 800 range, but it appears not the ones in 700. I can pick them up sometimes but then it goes away. Any idea? I have 800/700 under same trunking system...Thanks

Hi there Mark. I'm having a problem I am not able to enter my Home system id and my Home wacn id. Is there something I have to enable or it doesn't work with the radio? I have a Motorola xtl 2500 radio. The program isn't letting me enter any system ID?

Thank you for your video. I have a XTS5000 that I use for the P25 freq in San Antonio Tx. I did not know that you can use the trunk setup. I have 15 freq that the city and county use. So I am guessing that you can hear all, not first come first serve in conv mode. I am going redo the radio now that you show what to do. Thanks!

Thank you for the video! I haven't had a XTS in a LONNNG time, I currently have a Harris XL200P, but often don't want to carry a very expensive radio. I got back my old XTS2500 (same exact radio, got it from the friend I gave it to), loaded my old codeplug. Looks like I _WAS_ using hex talkgroups (this codeplug WAS working eons ago). Updated all the talkgroups to DEC talkgroups. Reception is hit or miss. Not getting all the traffic I should. Is it due to phase II? I understand the XTS can't receive Phase II talkgroups, but I thought most of EBRCS (Fremont PD & AlcoFD) are still broadcasting Phase I?

So answer me this. If youre parked on a conventional and everyrging is set right minus the bandplan pr rfss site or site id there is talk itll attempt to register. Ive also heard setting the abc or concentric switch to ptt inhibit and rx only will not allow any transmissions to leave the radio. True?

PTT Inhibit and Rx only will disable transmission, yes. With NAS, the radio will NOT affiliate to the system, hence the name... (non-affiliate scan).

​@@marke.1625 I've noticed with the correct setup using the concentric switch to ptt inhibit from a rx only conventional channel scanned for nas when you switch it to b non inhibit ptt the led blinks briefly. This seems odd for nas no?

its available..ive got multiple back ups of it and dos box..good idea to sit back and think up every agency or system youd ever possibly use and create a system key file, also with apx radios make sure they have the legacy system key option in the flash code Or find the " secret" software out there thatll let you upgrade your own flash code

itll do smartzone II system, it works the same as the p25 phase 1 , but your talk groups go under talk group number and they are only 3 characters(dont add the 4th character as its usually a 0.) if you like i can walk you through it..i just added a smartzone II system on mine, it also requires changing some settings after choosing the " II" option in system type, which is alittle complicated, but not if youre familiar with these type radios..digital strapping will also have to be chosen in a setting also and in zone youll have to scroll over the screen and change tx type to digital..also, smartzone II has a Connect Tone, but in the NAS method you can put any Connect Tone as its not affiliating anyway..i may get around to making a video on this as No One Has a video on how to Do NAS on a Motorola Smartzone II system because there not alot of them in use. There is big city/ county near me that still uses a Smartzone II Simulcast system and it rx's great from 50 miles away.​@@abraham9141

itll do Smartzone II..same type procedure, but a few more changes to do in the programming..but yes, it works..took me a year to finally figure it out since no one has info out there..

How do you know what frequency to put with the talk group? I have about 14 Control channels I would like to setup up. This is for starcom21 system in Illinois.

Control channels go in a control channel list and talk groups go in the personality. The radio knows because the CC tells the radio what frequency the talk group gets for a channel grant. You are worrying about stuff that isn’t necessary that you know. However, I am pretty sure that starcom21 is phase 2 and setting up that system is a bit different than what you see in this video.

hello, i followed your instructions for my xts5000, i get the word "fail 001" popup on the screen about every second and i seen the red tx light flash...i set up 1 talk group and i see their name show on the screen when they talk but nothing comes over the radio...

Sounds like your radio is trying to affiliate to the system which means you did something wrong. In order for this to work you must have 16 conventional channels programmed and then set the talkgroups starting at 17. You then program a scan list to only include the trunking talkgroups. You should only see trunking audio when scanning, you should never actually select the talkgroup or it will try to affiliate

All zones must be conventional for the first 16 slots as this prevents the user from turning the knob to a talk group. If the knob turns to a talk group the radio will try to affiliate.

Attempted on an XTS 2500. Ive got it displaying a receive signal strength of 4 bars however I am not hearing anything come through. I know the system is active because my APX is receiving but nothing on the XTS? Any thoughts?

Buddy, if you have bars, then that radio is affiliated. That is NOT what you want.

Still with NAS you need the system key. I tried the hex editor no luck how else other than the admin for the agencies (who are not going to give it up) do you get it?

I noticed that as well. In my experience with programming trunked systems into these radios, that section of the CPS can't be checked unless the system key is loaded along with the CPS. The Astro 25 Home System hex ID can't be entered without the system key. If I'm wrong then someone correct me and show me how I'm wrong.

Well I've got a code plug that somebody had set up for me on my behalf because I didn't know about this video until it was too late but at least it was a start and it did work and unfortunately the xts2500 is long gone and was never found so my Toughbook also ended up missing as well at the same time and so therefore I am not able to reprogram any radios at all and I was hoping that I would be able to send my codeplug data file to somebody who could actually program my radio for me if I decide to buy another xts2500 I'm debating what to do and I won't buy one until I know that somebody is able to take care of it for me on the programming side of things in the meantime
