I have the Z Flip 5 and now I'm ready to buy the RAZR. Why? The cover display on the Flip is basically just a smartwatch. Working in IT requires us to use 2FA to authenticate platforms from time to time. This is impossible with the cover display as the Flip CANNOT interact with notifications. Motorola's approach is basically having an extension of your main display which is the whole point of getting a decent Flip phone.

@johndru I don't know if that's the best move reliability of the hinge is horrible vs the flip and I have no problem authentication security with good lock. I returned my razr+ felt cheap compared to the flip 5 I hate Samsung too but quality is quality and the quality is just better with the Samsung. Good luck though the razr+ would've been kept if not for the quality

@@curtismiller1854 tech reviewers have already pointed out that the hinge issue is non existent in the new RAZR+. Apps opened in Good Lock do not work well. Also, navigating to the app via Good Lock requires additional swipes. It would have been WAY easier to just get a candybar phone and do this simple task. Also I forgot to mention that there is no app continuity with the Z Flip. Hilarious as it may seem but people think Samsung's software is the best? Maybe in OS updates but not in features and user experience.

I thought the whole point of getting a flip phone was to be less distracted? That was noted as a positive in the early phones, you need to do that extra step to open up your phone so you won't get as distracted in it. Because the screens were so limited on the outside. And now the outside screens are getting so feature full that it's basically like the inside screen and at that point, why even buy a flip phone? Just get a regular phone that will have more power because it doesn't need to deal with the costs of all the flip specific stuff.

Samsung fans are jumping on the software update to protect the Flip 6 but who can use a phone for 7 years without buying a new one? The success of the Razr it is based on the price for both models the 50 and the 50 Ultra much cheaper than the Flip 6 and still enjoyable

I agree 7 years is a bit long. It has more to do with the consistent support. Samsung will update their devices monthly if not more as needed or for improving the experience such as the cameras. This is the difference between Moto and Samsung. I really like the Razr. Id actually like to try one if not for their lack of support. Samsung is just better at this in every way.

Had the Z Flip 5 and order the Moto Razr+ 2024 & Z Flip 6. Moto Razr+ 2024 arrived yesterday and after setting it up to test drive my decision was made. I canceled the Z Flip 6 preorder, including the watch ultra, Buds 3 pros, and Galaxy ring. I just don't like the direction Samsung is going in duplicate apps on the phones, feature locks on devices when not using a samsung phone with their watches, and general lack of imagination on each generation. They have been trending toward Apple with lock ins and I'm just going to call it quits. The audacity to come with the same cover screen on the flip reeks of arrogance. since they don't have any competition here, they just lurch like a slug now. I'm going to diversify my devices that they work with all devices and are not locked into a specific ecosystem.

I agree 100%, Mark. I am very impressed on how much more innovative the Razr 50 Ultra is (Razr+ 2024 for the States), compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. I used to be a die-hard Samsung fan, but I was really disappointed with the lack of innovative features in their Flip 6 and Fold 6. It feels like they didn't put much effort into their 6th generation upgrades, other than $100 increases, respectively. Due to Samsung's lack of effort, I've also decided to hold off on upgrading to the Fold 6 and will seriously consider the Pixel Pro 9 Fold in August.

Absolutely love the Motorola Razr line. I have the Razr + 2023 (Ultra 40) and love it. Wish I would have waited for the Razr + 2024 (Ultra 50) so many beautiful upgrades and the front display is amazing. I use mine all the time and it saves my battery life almost get a day and a half. I'm hoping, when I can upgrade, the Razr + 2025 will have the phone at near perfection.

Be careful with the hinge I returned my ultra for a flip 5 on prime day special the hinge would slide and move the cover screen every time I presses the fingerprint scanner and as far as the cover screen it took a whole two minutes to make the flip 5 out screen just as usable as the razr and try swiping down with a case to change brightness on the cover screen on the razr misses everything. Flip 5 not a single time. Anyway I did love the razr but quality is quality and Samsung is much much better. FYI Samsung one ui sucks

Got the razr 3 weeks ago. So far, my only complaints are related to android since im coming from and iphone 12 mini. It is a really fun phone to use, and I find myself using the front screen/vidcam mode SO much more than I expected. Also really great for video calls, as it is easy to use the front screen with the good cameras as opposed to the hole-punch.

I really like the look of the razr. But I can't quite get over the slow speed in which they send out updates. Samsung seems to be the king, besides Google, for keeping their phones up-to-date as frequently as possible. And for me security and knowing bugs are going to be fixed is the most important thing.

ive tried them all my question is has anyone noticed the last 2 years when you check the ebay or other aftermarket places selling these foldables. The z flip seems to always have a smudge, a black dot on the crease, or a bad crease issue from people selling their old version. I dont see that at all from motos phones even last years z flip 5 theres alot that have the same thing from alot of resellers. Same either green smudge or black dot on the screen across the hinge part has anyone else seen this?

I was confused but eventually went for Flip 6. Just trust Samsung more and Moto is now a Chinese company. And I have been using my note 10+ for 4.5 years..... Not sure if Moto would have this longetivity even with their slab phones, let alone flip ones. IP 48 and one Ui + Sansung updates and overall being a better brand and the amazing trade in offer + 100 dollars discount voucher made it a simpler choice for me!

I prefer the telephoto to an ultrawide. If you want a wider shot just take two and stitch them together in post. That way you get loads of cropping possibilities. If i just took photos to keep on the phone, this approach probably wouldn't work but if i take a decent photo i like to do something with it.

You made a mistake on water and dust resistance. With the Galaxy Zflip6 it is not IP48 it is IP 4 Dust resistance IP 8 water. Also my Motorola Razr 50 ultra will be arriving tomorrow from 3 although close to a 1000 in prepay when getting on contract can be a lot less. For example I am paying 678 for the ultra through a renewal deal

I have two phones, with the Motorola being my secondary phone. For your daily driver I would get a phone with higher specs and better camers, therefore the Pixel 9 in your case. The Razr 50 +/ultra is a great secondary to have for social ocassions, going out to dinner, something that is compact and even a bit of a conversation piece. I used to have the mindset "why would I ever want 2 phones", but since Motorola Razr 40 came along I realised that I shouldnt limit myself to just one phone. So now I have two phones and two SIM cards/numbers. You could use the same SIM card for both both phones, switching them between phones if you dont mind doing that.

In terms of the chip, isn't the Moto Razr+ 2024 better than the Google Pixel 9? It's a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs a Tensor G4. I'm also asking because I'm considering a Pixel 9 vs. the new Moto. I don't really care much for the camera though. Mostly just general use ability.

As a secondary phone, a non daily driver, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra/Plus is an excellent choice. As well as the external display and the compact size, Moto Connect is the the feature that seals the deal for me. Being able to operate your phone from your smart TV as if its a PC is awesome. The fact that Razr 50 Ultra loses the Wide Lens is a shame. A higher spec phone should have the wide lens IMO. And yes, as for the updates ... hmmm .... only security updates so far (for Razr 40). And still no Android 14 in sight. But choosing between a lack of updates and a phone that has bloatware, I think I would be choosing the Motorola Razr.

Its a great phone, nice outer screen, but when it comes to shooting 4k video using the camera, it lags and jerks. Videos are not as stable. Just for that, I will stick with Flip 6.

@@MattD-z2c I think you may want to reconsider I have the 2023+ razr plus and I returned it for a z flip 5 for 600 on prime day! I do love the cover screen but Everytime you press the fingerprint the whole mechanism shifts otherwise it's awesome! I can't speak to the 2024 model! I know they made it 30 percent stronger but Ive been watching many videos starting the hinge on the flip 5 and 6 and still quite a bit more solid feeling! Plus I just got android 14 on my razr 4 days ago! I hate the Samsung UI but for the quality I think I'll happily give up the little functionality the razr+ has! Best of luck

I think the mentioning (on 2:38) of the water resistance is just a marketing trick of the mobile industry (not your fault, I mean the industry directly). The water has to be - not in a swimming pool (CL/BR), nor in an ocean (NaCl), just water without any additions - I recommend to work on this eye blinding marketing. I have had so many problems with a IP68 mobile phone, thought this should be clearly transported to the customers. u have to put the phone into waterproof cases if you want to use it next to water.

Strange. YT HDR played fine for me. At least in the quality tab it displayed HDR.

@@tech_edit same here, but it does not. When you compare to HDR supporting smartphone next to it you will instantly see that there is no HDR support. You have to max out brightness to get highlights as bright as what other phones do also for low brightness... And Prime and Netflix definitely are not supported as you can see in settings.

As I've researched, Netflix and PrimeVideo simply don't support the smartphone. KZbin should work, but unlike many other smartphones there is no additional "boost" in HDR mode and it looks very flat and lifeless in comparison

Naaaaw, staying with my flip 5, fold 6 and iPhone 13 pro.. it's not even considerable to try since rarzr was a thing 20 years ago and Samsung won the battle back then, they still win.. Genshin can be played on my dauthers calculator. I like gaming, not phone games unless it's snake 🐍. I'm going on 35 so it's not like death but DSLRs are still going in my vacay bag when traveling and gaming is done at home unless you're a incel😅

That RAZR has been truly disappointing - Since January FW update, have to open the phone to use Google Assistant properly, and Moto is not even committing to fix this critical user-function, despite still advertising that Assistant can be used with the phone closed. It is a serious defect for a phone that promotes usability when closed. Now, with a very belated rollout of A14 to #RAZR40, initial reports are that the issue is not resolved, and worse yet - the patch that provided partial Android Assistant functionality no longer works, bringing into question if the #RAZR50 supports Android Assistant with the phone closed. The Lenovo/Moto/RAZR support/discussion board shows how little Moto is taking any responsibility of a broken feature Moto specifically promotes. Moto RAZR... outrageous you have to open the phone to use Google Assistant, awkward, not as advertised, more wear on the hinge and screen fold... since Jan '24 - still that way in July - that 25% of a phone's typical use life a critical SW function is broken. Great idea, but someone dropped the ball on this critical function.

The only thing the Razr has over the flip 6 is the outter screen that makes a difference. Everything else just seems comparable, like you can’t go wrong with either phone. so past that the thing that it really comes down to for me is the ecosystem. Being the titan that Samsung is, It’s just gonna work better with everything else that I already have. Personally, I have a very extensive Samsung and Apple ecosystem since I use both phones currently the S24 ultra and 15 pro max. So the Razr isn't really a real contender until Samsung or Apple integrate the systems to play well with others. I had to flip 4 and traded it in less than two weeks later because I couldn’t get over how bad the camera was. But now that the flip 6 is said to have a camera comparable to the regular 24 I think it may be my time to go back to the flip. but again, honestly, it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with either phone. In my opinion, they both are the best of the best when it comes to flip phones.

Well said, and you're right. On paper, the Flip is better, and it's a more polished package. Me personally, I prefer the Razr day to day, but if I was invested in Samsung I would definitely go Flip 6. Thanks for the thoughtful comment! Basil

With that price, the Razr 50 Ultra it is more appealing and they is even a cheaper version with a better out screen than the Flip 6

​@@Jerbato if you preorder the amount of discounts you get is actually pretty huge. But if you skip the preorder shenanigans we lose out on those pre-order discounts, here in Australia discounts go up to 400$, even more up to 500$ if you trade in your Flip 3 if you have those. At the moment this beats the Razr at price point but its only for a limited time.

Razr is very nice. Feature rich for a Flip. But to me the photos looked overly saturated and not natural. (An Old Samsung trick). One thing not mentioned here is timely OS and security patch support.

Very fair comment and you're definitely right. Especially when compared to non flip phones. Should have stressed that for the same cash, you could get yourself a tidy non-bendy phone with a great camera. Noted for next time!

@@tech_edit To be fair I use to love that take on photos. Overly saturated and punched up. But now I appreciate a more natural look. I do think the Flip 6 from what I have seen so far does a fair job at that. Hopefully next year we get three lenses on the Razr and Flip. That would be cool.

I'll go with my perspective. Still choose the samsung. It's better than Motorola. Better camera on Z flip 6
