I was in the fire service for 15 yrs and we had the xts5000... I would love to have one just to listen to the dispatch, dept to dispatch, fire grounds, etc.. but I was told it's impossible due to motorola being picky with who can program them..

CPS version has nothing to do with whether they're narrow-restricted or not; it's a flash option.

I was looking to buy a couple 2500's but the programming software scared me off.

It's not that hard it just takes awhile to learn

Get them they are great radios. The software is much different then other softwares like chirp. But you will learn that the Motorola line just has a lot more features.

If the radio is not being used on a government radio system then why does it matter if the radio has been hit with depot?
