To all of the folks saying "she needs an automatic" I SAY NOPE! Just get some seat time and keep banging gears. Stick shift racing is always exciting. Soon that 5spd will sound like a linco. Practice, practice, practice. Rock on girl. Also I'm so glad you went with polished wheels instead of black. I hate black wheels.
@navy_vet4934 жыл бұрын
@Malcolm Reynolds LOL, This is a far cry from those 4 second Street Outlaws guys you seem to love to gauge and compare everything else by, Complete Rossler set-ups costs are higher than giraffe tonsils. I do agree with you though especially when you mentioned "serious racers." which I'm guessing is what you are...but I'm nowhere near that level and as a disabled veteran it's going to mean that I will have to rely on the lottery to even have a chance at becoming a "serious racer" LOL. but a car thats at or around the power level as the one seen here could possibly get to feeling a bit boring after really getting use to it (especially without a power adder) at the track w/ an auto. not to mention slower with an experienced driver behind the wheel of a good shifting man. gearbox. When your car doesnt make a lot of power you can literally pick up several tenths in the 60ft. alone on a set of slicks or DR's w/ a man. trans. over that of an auto with everything else being exactly the same. Having the option to side-step a clutch while the car is basically bouncing on the rev. the limiter will get you out of the hole in a hurry and we all know that its mighty hard to make up a deficit of close to a half second in the first 60ft It takes a good bit more power to turn an auto than it does to turn a manual (parasitic drivetrain loss) through a tq. converter and even rotational weight to a certain extent. Simply put I guess there are applications that are ideal for auto's and there are applications that are ideal for manual's I've been putting together and drag racing mustangs for more years than I care to mention lol... on the street, 1/8th mile, and 1/4 mile and I've have had all motor cars, nitrous cars as well as boosted cars (centrifugal SC's) and I know that by today's standards this is nothing to brag about, but back in the late 90's and very early 2000's I had a nitrous foxbody coupe, 331ci. (2 stages...fogger and a plate) with a cheap-ass old world class T-5 5-speed, s.p.e.c stage III clutch on 28x10.5 non-w that ran 5.70's in the 1/8th and it managed to last over 4 years before 3rd gear let go and even then the damage was my fault (overshifted). That was hauling the mail when you consider that it was over 20yrs ago. Plus I drove it to the track 50 miles there and 50 miles back home every Thursday and Sunday (weather permitting) Id get to the track jack the car up and swap the tires and go have fun. Could/Would that car have benefitted from an auto? Absolutely but it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun. Well sorry this turned out to be a novel, Yall have a good evening and take care

@MichXJdad Come on now buddy, I thought everyone knew that if the S/O guys are using them then we would all be stupid not to use them as well. LOL I mean they have quickly become the yardstick that the rest of us inch men are measured by and compared to. Get with the program bud! lol
@hhhmotorsports95504 жыл бұрын
Yea set time will help, use that firebird for practice or put a chip, that was an expensive bump in first. Gear, at least a auto is more forgiving and u can set everything.. .... if ur staying with a Manuel put a chip in the msd box, if u dont have one it could have well saved it
@hhhmotorsports95504 жыл бұрын
@MichXJdad totally agree, these people molly dont have ur best interest, a auto is easier on a new racer. Like i said practice your launches on that firebird, i am GM guy but learn ur shift to gas timing is very important

A stick is fun and you can win races,but it takes a lot of setup and practice. I would purchase an inline shifter and adjust the clutch stop and linkage to disengage at the top of the pedal. This way she won't be stepping too deep or shallow on the clutch. Do check with the track as some tracks won't allow non H pattern shifters,as well as some transmissions for specific types of drag racing, classes, race week, etc
