Part 4 of Ultimate Adventure 2016. Once camp is made, the shenanigans invariably begin. After a long, hard day on the trail there’s nothing better than cooking dinner over an open campfire, relaxing in your tent, and watching your buddy’s face as he realizes you’ve wired his horn into his ‘fridge thermostat control. Okay, we didn’t do the horn trick (this year at least) but thanks to our early start on Day 4 we had camp set up with enough daylight left to bust out the water balloon cannon and some fun party tricks. Day 5 began with T-cases in Low Range and hubs locked - just the way we like it. We re-entered the trail from Buck Island Lake on the way to Big Sluice. And man, was it torn up. Ground up sheetmetal, snapped brake lines, and some other broken parts and field fix opportunities were our reward for a great day on the trail. Straight through Rubicon Springs with a little history lesson on our way up the off-camber, cliffhanging Cadillac Hill. Man, the fullsize Super Duty and Chevy trucks really enjoyed that! With the Rubicon behind us we made it more or less unscathed to our night’s stop in Truckee, CA. But one of our rigs wouldn’t be able to continue. Check the next episode to see who. Coffee delivered by Heli? c'mon now, get out that Bunsen burner or other device to heat up the water and have grounds ready to be poured over with a mesh like filter into your cup of choice. Other than that... cool video. At the very beginning I immediately thought to turn the wheel left to get some weight shift and traction; puzzling adventures.

ripped a brake line off because of an inverted swaybar? why are you running a sway bar on a crawler?
@Cwsnyder
@Cwsnyder 7 жыл бұрын
Lighter rate springs are needed in the rear for most any rig as there's less weight in the back. A rear sway bar up's the torsional spring rate in the rear, making the rig flex more evenly front and rear. Some guys run only a rear bar, some run them front and rear w/ a more flexible bar in the front - that's what I used to do on my TJ. This is only really needed w/ rigs that run coils/coilovers front and rear. Limited, balanced flex won't score as high on a (lame) RTI ramp, but it'll wheel much better.
@Cwsnyder
@Cwsnyder 7 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the electronic disconnect front swaybar on the JK Rubicons? I don't have any hands-on experience w/ them as I sold my rig and got out of wheeling around the time the JK was introduced. Design wise they accomplish roughly the same thing as manual front swaybar disconnects like those from JKS, but with the luxury of being push button and not having to rock your Jeep back and forth to get the end links lined back up. I'm sure they'd be great for light wheeling. But for harder trails, having a front swaybar disconnected and a stock rear swaybar in place will make your front suspension do more than its fair share of the work, as stock rear swaybars are somewhat stiff. The best balance (no pun intended) I've found is to run a torsion front swaybar like Currie's Anti-rock in the front, and either the stock swaybar in the rear, or a rear Anti-rock set to something more stiff than the front.
@Stuka87
@Stuka87 7 жыл бұрын
A rear sway bar is a must on a JK. Its thin, and flexes well. But no sway bars at all are VERY scary. Front of course is always disconnected offroad.

I thought Rick was also cheesy but like in a funny way that was entertaining, but this guy, this guy is the ultimate monotone, boring host with a pretty annoying narrating voice. Please go back to Rick or find a new guy that sounds somewhat like decent host because I'm being bored to tears.

Just redeemed this year a little bit with the addition of Tim Hardy. Still significantly worse than the previous years, amazing how it hurt the series with not having Rick around. Hope you guys are reading these comments and revamp the series next year. We get it, you need sponsors. But these plugs get annoying quick. 4 wheeling folks know the big names, we dont need to hear them every 4 seconds. We like to see the raw wheeling footage, we like to see the drivers meeting, repairs, and especially the tech inspection and vehicle overview. And the narrator needs to change, if getting Rick back wont happen than put Fred or even Dave in that spot. Current guy just is too boring. The only gripe I see repeatedly that I dont agree with is the lack of a new build for this year. I'm sure that gets expensive and DED had some other cool stuff going on.
