Pleased to see that my "bike-truck" (AKA the S10) is still showed and almost unmodified. In nowadays it´s an amazing industrial achievement (no matter the comercial aspects) that a manufacturer still defends a product with almost 10 years on the market (I can only remember another one : Rolls Royce Phantom - LOL - ). I'm so glad that Yamaha still makes and sells this really indestructible motorcycle. It is the most reliable vehicle that I've ever owned (including every type of "means of transportation")!

There is a difference between Adventure and touring.These monstrous machines can't go off road as well as a old 350 Honda scrambler.A Himalayan is a much more practical choice.And it can be fixed by anyone anywhere if I does fail.

I like Yamaha: however, they have fallen behind the other manufacturers when it comes to updating their existing Adventure Bikes. Meanwhile, other motorcycle companies consistently innovate and update their products. Yamaha makes one of the most, if not the most, reliable bikes in the world. They should also be on the cutting edge.

Most are too lardy tp be an adventure bike - 40ish hp and about 160 kg would float my boat - maybe a 600 thumper air-cooled - oh I have one already : )

A KTM 690 Enduro R is only about 10 kilos low on weight, but has twice-ish the HP you want - but you don't have to use it. Who wants a motorcycle that will deliver thrills n command?

Everyone slams the Super Tenere, but I have a Yamaha cruiser that for ten years has only needed tires and oil changes. First thing with the KTM and Honda would be a rattle can. They are ugly.

@@charliesadv8493 I can't, but I have just become intererested in the ADV bikes, so I don't know much about the ST history. I do know Yamaha builds rock solid bikes, but got hit hard when the Roadliner/Stratoliner didn't sell, so they are not very progressive latley.

Yeah, the ST is very underrated, as it seems like the lazier of the Adv bikes, but I love mine to bits, and not easily change to different bike. They are bulletproof. It's my second Yamaha, and before I wasn't a Yammie fan. One of the world's most reliable bikes

What about fuel economy ? These bikes suck fuel like a truck. Not suitable for long drive. Who need that much power ?. This is why indian companies are beating them in this segment. Also the cost is out of reach for most of us.

Harley? Well, they try but that has got to be one of the ugliest bikes I've ever seen. Like a bunch of parts from different bikes slapped together (AMF), or a pieced together old Moto Guzi. Worked for Harley for years. Like when They came out with the Buels back in early 2000s. Stick with the weekend warrior bikes Harley. Can't seem to make anything else to compete with the rest of the market. That bike won't sell, just like Buels,. I'll stick with my Honda Africa Twin 1100. Way better bike.

Only bike worthy of the "adventure" title is the KTM, the rest are wannabe tarmac munchers that require any real adventure to be taken in groups of 3 or with back up vehicles in case and when you fall of and unable to lift it up by yourself. Bikes have become fashion accessories in a world were credit is cheap. I would take an Enfield Himalayan over all these.
