Still make these today under the same generation! Just as a stripped chassis, no more cargo or passenger van variants, it even just for a refresh for 2021.

These Ford full-sized ( Econolines ) vans were the best amongst the 3 for ride and comfort . Today's van ( 2022 ) European design are no match compared to these older vans from the big 3 .

I have a 2012 Ford E350 I use for expedited deliveries, still in use. I have 788K miles on it. Original 5.4L flex fuel motor, never rebuilt only tuned up. Still have the original rear, only replaced the oil, and original auto transmission, rebuilt once. I'm the original owner. The Ford Transits today can't I never will achieve this reliability. Ford today wants to make their money doing repairs. Just build them then fix them, is their creed today. You never see that TV commercial where you see the Ford logo on a van and the words built Ford tough. Those days are gone forever.

It's amazing to me how modern this van still looks. Neither of the other Big 3 vans had received their redesigns/refreshes yet so it would be unfair to compare this to those 1970s relics. But; look at the full sized pickups of the early and mid '90s. They're still handsome, but, are clearly quite old. Same with literally every minivan on the market in '92, or even 2000. Yet, this Club Wagon still looks fresh. It's a timeless design.

my dad had a 96 Econoline conversion van. After having an 83 Econoline and an 87 Chevy G20, the 96 was a huge improvement. Its 5.8 liter was a lot of fun to hustle the big blue bomb around.

Man I've had a good bit of seat time in the 90's/00's Econoline, Chevy Express, and Dodge Ram vans. I must say the Ford drove/steered the best, by far was the most comfortable with good relation between the seat/pedals/steering wheel/more room for my left foot. Also the stock seats were nicer and didn't wear out before 100k miles like those shite Express van seats. They were also more tightly built, less squeaks rattles. Will say the Chevy vans had a lot more pickup/torque right off idle, both with the old 350 and newer 5.3 V8.

Ford's been making this generation model for 30 years now. But as of 2014 the passenger and cargo conversions are no longer available.

I WAS surprised, yet not at all disappointed, to see that MotorWeek did not do their usual slalom/pylon test with this van. Something tells me that they would have either flipped it on the first hard left/right or knocked over every single pylon. This test is also where I learned how to properly pronounce "Chateau". When I rode with Valley Ambulance Service's Wheelchair Car fleet to school in the mid-'80's, their vans were all Econolines & Club Wagons. In fact, it was on a couple of those vans that I remember seeing the word "Chateau" for the first time, although I pronounced it "Chat-You" back then. I would learn the correct pronunciation, "Shat-Oh", some time later before I could say it incorrectly. As time went on, it was an assortment of more of these aero Econolines, short & long wheelbases, straight 6's & V8's all through school, & even today, the vans I ride to work in when I take The Ride, are.......you guessed it, E-Series.

You would think that it would be easy to find a good used Club Wagon in the used car market. It isn't. I would like to get a used 1998 version if possible.
