I have a 2002 Diamante VR-X, very rare and reliable, still out runs the majority of newer cars. This v6 is very responsive, but that transmission holds it back. The Australian and Japanese market got the 5 speed invecs2 with gear selection, that would have been sweet, and even a 5 speed manual in aus with amazing body kit.
I have a 2003 Diamante. Left side drive, not a Japanese import. It is the fastest car I have ever drove. I have a 49 dodge, 2009 civic (daily) and 2006 matrix (daily). The Diamante is something special. I have it because it is rare and the fastest nicest car I have ever sat in.

I think now they uses an Infiniti in Japan to compete in this class. Mitsubishi is nothing close to what they were in the 90s. Hell no brand is nowadays.

I agree mistsubhi felt More premium built from 90s up to 2001 and they had a more cool jazzy persona

It's such a shame, Mitsubishi used to make some seriously awesome cars. Nowadays, it just sells crossovers.
Fantastic car, this Diamante always appealed more to me than its competition. Better looking, and with a more muscular feel in its power train too

The Diamante was so underrated. I blame Mitsubishi. Their dealer network was riddled with sketchy salesman taking full advantage of poor people with bad credit. Who would walk into a dealer at that time and pay $35,000 for a luxury sedan with janky people struggling and haggling to secure financing for a $14,000 econocar? 3000GT buyers had to deal with the same thing. Ditto for Mazda 929/Millennia buyers. Anyway, these cars are literally the most reliable V6 front wheel drive sedans ever. These transmissions don't break. I have never seen one break. And the 6G series V6 will last longer than a Buick 3800 V6 as long as the timing belt is changed regularly.

Do you think the 1997 diamante v6 will beat a Maxima at race track tho?
