The previous base engine was the 3.8 Liter pushrod engine. It was only 200 HP so this 4 Cylinder is about the same power level. The issue, is that while the new engine makes more power from less displacement, and needs a small turbo, this engine is complex from a repair point of view. It's aluminum, so an engine rebuild needs new re-sleeving. The Direct Injection fuel injection system is a high pressure system, and the dual overhead came engine is almost impossible to do a valve job on, in expensively. So while this may seem like a good engine choice, as this car ages, it's an expensive engine to maintain. Nobody is thinking past 8 to 10 years. Cars used to be made to last 15-20 years and now we throw away cars. I say, the bring back the very simple, very in-expensive , bullet proof 3.8 for the base model.

The old pushrod 3.8 liter got basically the same hwy mpg but had better acceleration.

The 3.8 can never be replaced. It was the best engine series to ever be put into a Buick.

Very nice car! I own a cxs and i'm 26. My very first car with my own money and i would recommend this to anyone. My parents have a Lexus ES350 and i thought it was nice until i bought this.

A V6 won't give an awful lot less economy so I'm not sure about this move. I'll take a smooth running V6.

Beautiful car, just beautiful. And you know, those performance numbers are typical or better than most of the stuff people drive around in here. And 180HP are still 180HP, even in a 4cyl. Id prefer an AWD V6 tho. If Id import one of them to Germany Id have no problem to pay some extra money for the gas.

@p10ghost There will be another Turbo for the Regal coming sometime mid year in a 2012 model. It's the Regal GS Turbo it has 255 hp with both the 6-speed manual and automatic. Are you talking about this one or the one right now in Buick showrooms w/ 220 hp; with the 6 speed manual? I was real impressed with the Regal at a Car Show. Also, in 2012 there will be an e-Assist hybrid with 37 mpg highway with 197 hp for the LaCrosse.

@sdlausen- I feel u on the bruthas and desecrating cars with them big ass wheels. They dont realize that putting those big wheels on diminishes fuel economy, suspension life and ride quality! Even on an SUV.

These number are respectable for a 4-cyl. car. GM is really turning around their products.

@StuinthaHouse The engine is to DEAD for every day driving. Sort of like the 2010 6 cyl Chrysler 300 with zero ft lbs of torque.

Expect these to sell at a snails pace. The rental car exterior with std plastic hubcaps, no fog lamps, a decent 4 cylinder struggling against nearly 3900 LBS of weight, a useless 13.3 cu. ft. trunk, light tan or light gray mouse fur seats, no front seat legroom and bland Asian styling all spell Hurtz.
