I have a 2007, had 72,000 when I bought it. Excellent car, gas mileage is 24 city and 31 highway, it’s a very comfortable car to dive and ride in, lots of trunk space. It’s a great car.

I drove one of these to 214k mikes, till rust got to it. It’s one of the best cars I ever had. We took this car on cross country camping trips and it was *far* more comfortable than even the large SUV’s we’ve been in. No worries about sharing cabin space with the luggage because the trunk was 24 cu Ft. Better mileage even with AWD, and interior space to rival a full sized truck. I once drive a 14 hour truck with no body fatigue. Oh, and it was very safe. It’s too bad. People are nuts about SUV’s, and that’s fine. But this car was severely underrated by the automotive press (‘Boring!’) because it was a safe, reliable, very comfortable family car and not a sports car. It didn’t sell as well as it should because I think it came at the end of the sedan era. But it was an amazing car.

Due to a mistake made by a mechanic and a substandard replacement water pump, I recently too the engine valve covers and timing chain covers off this car. The car has had mostly synthetic oil used in it but this engine shocked me in that it was by far the cleanest engine I’ve ever seen with this many miles on it (187,000), most of the internals literally appeared new. Even the intakes and valves were clean and smooth. That tells you the engine tolerances are tight, are correct, and that this engines computer management is flawless therefore burning fuel as clean and efficient as possible. Well made car.

I can still fit 2 people on the sides comfortably and when the car seat is not there, I can easily fit 3 in the back with lots of room for all 3. About the engine being "underpowered" or "underrated", my friend has a 2007 Chrysler 300C Touring. V6 rated at 250hp. Time and time again, my 500 smokes his 300. Though its only 203hp and 207tq, the CVT makes up for it with a constant power flow. The 500/Montego's are awesome cars.
@Nextro0912 жыл бұрын
I don't know where people get the idea of CVT and/or AWD Montego's and 500's getting bad gas mileage. It all depends on how the person drives. I live in Texas, and on a full tank, I went from Austin, to Llano and back plus 2 weeks daily driving, 20miles+ a day from work to home and still had more left over. For highway driving, @ 70-75mph I am at 1700ish RPM's. So I would say it is pretty good for such a big car with the CVT. And I drive with a somewhat heavy foot.

Barath Vedant Styling and them being underpowered. The styling was too bland for a ‘new’ car at that time, and they basically put the same Duratec 3.0 that was in the 1996-2005 Taurus in the Five Hundred, which was a lil weak for that heavy of a car. Plus, it was just a bad idea at that time to completely kill off the Taurus, as they could’ve easily saved it, but they were too focused on investing in SUVs and trucks. They did good w/ the the 2008-09 Taurus rebrand tho, those sold pretty decent.
