I have not had to replace a single thing under the hood except a battery and I have approx 125k miles/200k klm on it. The gas tank is a good size and combined with good mileage and I have been able to get 700 km/434 miles to a tank on the highway. Mine is now at 345,000 kms. Got it at 173,000 km in Dec 2016 and drive it 30-60 minutes to work every day. In 2017 I took it on a trip from Ontario to Syndey, Nova Scotia, threw it on a ferry, took it to St. John's Newfoundland, drove it all around the island, drove all the way back. I think it was a 10,000 km trip in 2 months. Hit some major potholes, took it somewhat off-road where it dropped on its own frame on a rock ( thank god it wasn't the oil pan ). The damn thing never dies. Last year the alternator finally quit on the highway but other than that, no major issues. One common flaw I see with these cars is the tendency to rust out the rocker panels by the rear wheel, and if you're in a cold area like Canada, there was a recall on the door latches - they freeze OPEN and will not allow the door to close without a lot of screwing around / heat gun / warming up the car for 30m. If you can keep the body intact and perform basic engine maintenance it will last forever.
@Johnny53kgb-nsa4 жыл бұрын
A Ford employee told me they stopped making it to eliminate recall rights where the Taurus was made, after a few years, they could change back. I don't know that to be true, or not. I love my 06 Ford 500. Keep it serviced, and very important to keep the transmission fluid changed regularly, and flush out the radiator, and if course change the oil.
@rockandroll46894 жыл бұрын
John g - that's not what i read. I read where Ford did an evaluation and found that the American public gets BORED with the same cars, same body styles, etc. and decided to rename the Taurus the Ford FIVE HUNDRED. It didn't go well with the public - they stopped people on the street and asked them which was more familiar - the Ford Taurus or the Five hundred. Everyone said the Taurus and Alan Mulally told them to bring the Taurus back.

We owned 2 Ford 500s (a 2005 and a 2006) and they were our favorite vehicles ever. They were built like a tank. Very sturdy and very, very comfortable. The only problems we had included the door cavities would fill with water during heavy rain and you could hear it sloshing around when you opened and closed the doors (both the 2005 & 2006). Our 2006 had a TCM (transmission control module) problem in 2017 and found that they no longer made that module. If they were still making these cars we'd buy them in a heartbeat. Good video. Thanks! Ford stopped production for a number of reasons. Mostly it was a planned stop gap vehicle until the new 3.5l v6 was ready l, which is what the Five Hundred was supposed to have (the 08 and 09 Taurus/500 did have that engine). Plus with the recession at the time and the cost of parts for the European cvt transmission, it simply became too expensive for Ford to keep it going.

Recently my daughter wanted a car and I thought it would be the perfect time to give her my 2012 Altima (never gave me a problem. Mhh? Where is the "fatal" flaw? Does the steeringwheel come loose? Do the wheels Fly off when you brake? Do passengers get ejected when you make a sharp turn? I see no "fatal" flaw (except when you need to change sparkplug or coils on it) in our Ford 500 and the power was always enough to hold up with traffic. You want to Win a street race get the appropriate car. I would be more concerned with "lack" of power on the German Autobahn. Been there lived there. The best feature is the unobstructed visibility you get in this car. It does what it was designed for extremely well.

I've been in 2 accidents in this car, and in both could drive away with no major issues, while the other driver's car had to be towed. The trunk is gigantic and cargo space is huge. The dowsides is that the design has major faults; Transmission is a nightmare, A/C Compressor; Throttle Valve; EGR Valve; Heater Core, Evaporator; Water Pump.

I had a '70 Buick GS. 455cc with the factory 4 speed. Rock crusher tranny with the hurst shifter..... and it was VERY FAST. I bought a 2005 Ford 500 Limited for $1700 in early 2019. The car was meticulously maintained, prior owner kept ALL the paperwork. I called the mechanic that service the car and he told me they NEVER missed an oil change or anything.... and the paperwork backed it up. I'll tell you this. This car runs like new. It's very comfortable, and in almost new condition. Brand new tires, brand new spare. Haven't regretted my decision once. I used to race in the Street Stock Division up in the Northeast in the mid '80s. Riverside Park Speedway, Stafford Springs Connecticut, etc. Asphalt 1/4 to 1/2 mile ovals. The most fun I've ever had in my life. Would LOVE to build another car but I'm 60 now and my wife would kill me. Thanks Bro!! Good luck with the 500. It's a solid car.

My mom bought the car almost brand new, it still only has 34,000 miles. It is a nice driving car with more horsepower than the 500, I think around 265 HP. My mom is getting too old to drive as well, I was thinking about giving her top blue book on the car. My only reservation about the car is the potential for a water pump failure on this engine, which is a major repair, almost $2000. Otherwise I have heard positive reviews of these cars, they are extremely comfortable. I hope the car works out for you.

My a/c went out about 100,000, the a/c shop said that year was bad for going out around that mileage. The six speeds are bad for valve body going bad, but if you keep the fluid changed like I didn’t do,it will last longer . I put 165000 on mine and never serviced it before it started giving me trouble, drove it to transmission shop and they told me it needed a new valve body in transmission 1,500 dollar fix, they wanted 2,500 for a complete rebuild but he said it didn’t need a complete rebuild just new valve body, fixed that and it shifted like new, I think the engine is good for 3 or 400,000 thousand or more because it runs as good as it did new, top motor mount is known for wearing out early beside that it’s a good riding and driving car, doors close just like they did when new, very comfortable car, from what I been told the 2008 Taurus has the good transmission and about 60 more horsepower, so that’s the one i would be looking for and that came from the guy who ran the transmission shop and own a 2008 Taurus

My 2005 ford 500 has cvt transmission issues , it jerks and pops if you take off fast or slow down fast . I bought it - t m u - so i have no idea of the mileage on it because the dash cluster didnt work . I bought a used cluster and took it to the dealership , and the dealership said that they could not program the engine computer to the dash cluster . Now i can not get the oil life on it to reset . I do it the way that you are supposed to but to no avail . The air compressor blew a hole in it so no ac .
