I'd say Ford has had a few wild one offs in their belt Like the V8 Taurus that had a completely custom Yamaha/Cosworth engine, the 1999-2004 Mustang Cobras also had a whole new rear suspension designed just for them, and also to a lesser extent when Ford turned the 4.6 4 valve 90° and put it into the FWD Continental and the Continental only that needed a special block to work with the transverse layout. Ford definitely does weird things, but unlike something like the Syclone and Typhoon Ford sells a lot more of their weird cars so they might seem less special I suppose?

@@crazybear5475 I mean Ford has a ton of special vehicles that are rare that are sold to the public even more rare than the syclones. Ever heard of a cobra r? Made em in 93, 95 and 2000. The svo mustang was unique and fairly limited as was the turbo coupe tbird and sc tbird which was a blown v6 those were very corky cars that were fairly limited. I think anything svt did was super cool. There are tuner versions of special cars too like Saleen cobras for example. Boss 302 was cool as shit and pretty limited at only like what 8000 vehicles total for 2 model years? 93 cobra was 1 year only and just under 5000 made total. *PAMELA JOY BYRD* is a good Financial Advisor who has prepared me for times like this, kept emergency funds for buying the dips. You should only be taking out what can be taken out during downturns. Do not be tempted to sell. All that you invested over time (esp during upward trends) will be Lost....

A production version would have probably had either a supercharged 4.0 liter V6 or a supercharged 4.6 liter V8. It could have been available with a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Would have been cheaper than the F-150 SVT Lightning.
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
They wouldn't make that because it would be faster than the mustang gt for similar money. That is probably why they didn't make this truck. It would have to be cheaper than the lightning so it would have been in the mustang gt price range.

@@midnight347 Ford isn't that obsessive with the Mustang like GM is with the Corvette. At the time, the most powerful Mustang was the Mustang Cobra with the supercharged 5.4 liter V8. The SVT Ranger would have been nowhere near that model.

If any of you Americans are Ford fans at around same time in Australia Ford built n sold XH Falcon ute with 5.0lt V8. At Melbourne motor show they had concept ute call Sandfire with V8, straight through 3inch pipes. Later that year I got hear it fire up at ag fields days, bloody awesome.

Chevy had a skunkworks also. 700 horse Camaro in the mid nineties and a bunch of other neat stuff. A buddy in high school dropped a 302 into an 86 Ranger and it was fun.

Syclone would be a race well the gmc would hook up being AWD but supercharger V8 be tough

That's alot of work considering the old pushrod explorer 5.0 will bolt right in the standard ranger frame rails with no modifications

Or even the Ford 400"...
@TBird1006362 жыл бұрын
They did it with an earlier prototype, Ford wouldn't give the go ahead for production.

Yea but the 302 don't make over 400 hp and almost 500 torque and drive like a bone stock vehicle smooth as silk. They don't have a 400 horse stock 302 to put in it. They never had a roots blown 302. The point was they were making it a mini lightning hence lightning bolt. It was just a cool 1 off not a production vehicle.

I'm sure it's closer to 4000lb, but with an estimated 420 bhp, you'd think it would easily run mid to high 12s...
@jeffreyrigged2 жыл бұрын
a 4wd ext cab ranger only weighed 3606 lbs. a 2wd reg cab is closer to 3k. the 5.4 is about 250 lbs heavier than 4.0 add maybe a extra few hundred for odds and ends. prob 3500 lbs max.

Yes, from the HP/torque, was expecting high 11's in 1/4... or at least low 12's... Guess estimate was grossHP, not netHP...

Can get similar straight line performance from a 347 Ranger or a 383 Chevy S-10.
