Motospeed CK108 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

The Motospeed CK108 is a cheap RGB mechanical keyboard that can be picked up for around $59 USD, but is it worth it? In this review I’ll show you the features of the keyboard and discuss the overall build quality as well as how it is to type with.
The keyboard was sent out from gearbest.com for review, all thoughts and opinions are mine after a few weeks of testing it out. I'm impressed at what's on offer here for the price they're asking. If I didn't already have a mechanical keyboard, I'd probably snap up one of these, though I do wonder whether this keyboard has the durability to match some of its more expensive competitors. Great video. It was very informative.

Hi Jarrod, I already had a mechanical keyboard prior to this one, but I decided to purchase the CK108 in order to see whether it was too good to be true for what it offers for its price. I ordered this keyboard on the 3rd of February. It shipped (or I received the email stating it had been shipped out) on the 12th of March. It arrived on my doorstep on the 25th of March via Australia Post Registered (express). After placing the keyboard on my desk and extending the two retractable feet to raise the keyboard at an angle slightly, I noticed the keyboard would wobble whenever I started typing. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the rubber foot at the bottom-right corner of the keyboard had a gap under it. In other words, there is a difference in thickness between the rubber foot on the bottom-left corner of the keyboard and the bottom-right corner of the keyboard, so much to the point that the keyboard wobbles while keys are being pressed. This problem doesn't occur when the two retractable feet aren't extended, but I don't like having my keyboards at a flat angle across the desk, so this bothered me quite a bit. I eliminated the wobble by placing a thin piece of paper and plastic under the bottom-right foot of the keyboard, enough to fill the gap between the foot of the keyboard and the desk, but nevertheless, this didn't leave a good first impression. I enjoy that there are plenty of lighting effects, as well as how you can define your own custom lighting for specific keys. However, even on the brightest setting, the LEDs seem a bit dim to me, which is a shame considering the many lighting effects available. The blue switches are very clicky, much louder, and seem to require a lot more force to actuate compared to the Cherry MX Red switches I'm used to, but I'm getting used to the blue switches now and quite enjoy typing with them. Compared to your video, the switches seem to have a much more distinct 'click' sound in real life when they're actuated. Some of the LEDs seem to shine a different colour compared to the rest of the keys when I set the entire keyboard to one colour. Try RGB 0, 191, 255, and look at the Escape key and the Enter key on the numeric keypad. Are they slightly paler than the rest of the LEDs? There are LEDs under other buttons that shine a slightly different colour too, giving the keyboard a somewhat inconsistent glow when all the LEDs are set to the same colour. Additionally, some of the keycaps can shift into angles that make them look like they're misaligned with the rest of the keys. The installer for the keyboard's drivers also crashed with an 'abnormal program termination' error at first, and I had to do a bit of troubleshooting to get the installer working, but after that, the 'Gaming Keyboard 1.0' software was easy enough to use. Overall, the Motospeed CK108 seems worth the price for the amount I paid for it (~$80 AUD), but there are little things here and there that indicate imprecise manufacturing or somewhat reduced quality control in putting this keyboard together. Or maybe I just got unlucky and received one that got put together hastily? It might suit people who really want an RGB keyboard but don't want to pay a premium for it, but at the same time, I'd caution people against expecting the same level of quality from the CK108 that you'd expect to see in keyboards from more well-known brands.

Also, for anyone who's having problems installing the drivers: - Under Windows 10, open the Control Panel. - Open 'Programs and Features' (Apps -> Programs and Features) - Click on 'Turn Windows features on and off' - Clear the box labelled '.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 3.0 and 2.0)' - Click 'OK' Let Windows do its thing. Restart if necessary. Now try running the installer. If the installer still crashes, follow the steps above again, only this time, reinstall .NET Framework 3.5. Try running the installer again. It's advised to reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 even after you get the installer working, as other programs may need it.

That's odd, I've been using mine with the feet out with no issues, poor manufacturing tolerances perhaps? I can't say I notice the difference in lighting on mine either, but maybe my eyes are just bad 😅 Thanks for sharing your experience, and for the .NET tip!

Hello I just got this and I have a question. I cannot save my profiles no matter what I do. Example: I go to profile 1 I press Light--->Custom backlight mode--->FPS. I proceed to change colors etc. The apply button cannot be pressed and if I press Confirm then when I go to the same categories if I re-select FPS then it defaults to the previous settings. Any tips?

Just in case you had a different driver, I used the one linked on this page: www.motospeed.cc/index.php?ac=article&at=read&did=469 Not sure about the error, I recall it being a bit dodgy but it worked ok for me in Windows 10. You could potentially try it on a different computer, as it saves the settings to the keyboard so they will still be there when you plug it in elsewhere.

Yeah that should be possible. Not sure why they stayed that colour actually looking back on it, can probably customize them though to something else.

I only really used it while making the video, as I don't personally have any use for macro keys myself, so my best advice would just be to experiment with it, try all the settings and work out what's needed to get it working :) as far as I'm aware there is no proper documentation for it.

+essadaoui oussama sure, but the only other keyboard I had for comparison had cherry MX browns, would you have preferred that I didn't compare it at all? 😛 It would be interesting to compare these with cherry blues, as the switches were are not by cherry, but alas I do not have a cherry blue keyboard.
