There was a time when I was driving 800, during hard bend near palamaner I took turn with out bringing down gear from 4th to take sharp turn, lost grip on the road almost would have hit other side of rock wall, thank god spontaneously I have reduced gear to 2nd and given full acceleration not applied breaks, that day manual saved my life and my family life.

I’ve seen ambassador drivers clean the car the same way described by asir anna. One more thing to mention is people used newspapers to clean the windshield which is almost extinct now except for a few transport drivers who still stick onto newspapers. Now we’ve completely moved on to microfibre cloth.

Your RX 135 reminded my college days. I had a Suzuki Max 100R during my college days, I loved the exhaust note ( 2stroke beat) & never worried about fuel economy (my parents money). If a girl passes by, I drop a gear just to get her attention. Later fuel price increased, I have to fill petrol with my own money & bike aged 15 yrs, fc puc etc so I switched to an electric scooter (Ampere magnus). During those college days I never imagined about selling my bike for an electric scooter. May be one day I have to switch from my Figo to an electric/hybrid car. Who knows, change is inevitable.

There was period when the rotary dial gear selector was available only in luxury and premium cars like jaguar, BMW and Mercedes but when Renault Kwid introduced this in their under 5 lakh car it was like a dream come true for the middle class car buyers. As you have mentioned rightly driving as a professional skill is slowly replaced by making the car more and more easy to drive and we have almost reached the level of autonomous driving cars. This is happening in every field and the manual skills are taken over by the automation in order to reduce the cost, manage shortage of skills and to reduce manual errors. I learnt driving in my dad's LHD Willys jeep and used to drive his Ambassador car. Those days drivers were considered as heroes to many of the teenagers who were passionate towards driving and vehicles. Now most of us are driving with the google map on and never bothered about getting lost and venturing new destinations. Before the google map era we used to ask directions on the way and keep printed road maps to seek directions. There will be a slight initial hesitation while switching from a manual to automatic with a lot of questions in mind but as the manufacturers slowly shifting the focus from manuals to automatic it is inevitable for the buyers to sway away from the manual cars. Nowadays we see a lot of first time car buyers/drivers going for the automatics and they won't be even able to drive the cars with manual transmission. In the next 5 years the the percentage swap will happen and will become like western world.

Wonderful Podcast 👌 Agree with all your points. Most of them are echo of my understanding why I need to switch to automatic. Manual cars are really fun to drive however it starts hurting when they are driven in stop and go traffic especially when the clutch becomes hard. One will start to hate the car. This happened to me. As you mentioned, it is really painful driving manual car in city traffic on return back from office. Another painful situation is driving the manual car in really bad roads where frequent gear shifts are required. Considering the growth of traffic in our roads and road conditions, automatic is the future. Though I have almost decided to go for an automatic car as my next upgrade I have slight dilemma whether to go for it or stay with manual. But this podcast is inclined towards my decision 😊

Sir, I watched the entire video. Nice work. I still use M800 for the past 6 years in our Chennai Traffic. Yes sometimes I feel pain on the Left leg Driving is a passion and an art also. If RE brings automatic on their segment and if our people also accept automatic, that day Manual cars will go off the road. To me the Car /Bike should be under control. On the other side, if car /bike manufacturers produce only Automatic, then a pure Enthusiast may get them for a need but definitely not for the love towards the vehicle. Amby and Pad cars and old RE had a bonding with owner but it became a history so we change bike /cars once in 5 to 7 years. Thank you.

Great Discussion, What I like about manual is its "simplicity" . More simple=More reliable But unfortunately, todays generation is not bothered about reliability, but about convenience. Its not just cars, even people don't want a reliable phone, so that they could buy a new one in an year to 2. No matter how much we succeed technologically. All our resources comes from nature. And if we don't focus on reliability, one day all our convenience will be wiped off. People believe that they got enough money to buy anything they need, but reality is "we all live at natures grace" Ya, IC engines (manuals too)should have been scraped way before in the past , coz conversion from linear to rotatory motion itself is a huge energy /resource lose. I feel, most people hates manuals coz they don't uses alternate gears while upshifting (1,3,5). Just, rev a little bit more and it works. And use neutral w:r:t road conditions. Even u can cross leg(left leg beneath right leg) so that ur breaking will be more effective with ur toe rather than thumb (This technique need some practice). Honda City manual gear shifting is butter smooth with its light clutch, and needless to say, its engine is soo fab giving very tall gearing AWA low end torque . With its 3rd gear, one can go from 0 - 150 May be, I like manual driving coz of this car

I was totally held up in moving traffic with lots of Two wheelers and other vehicles on both the sides.. Literally speaking.. Mannual Gear helped a lot.. as I shifted my gear from 3 to 2 and then 1.. then I applied the hand break.. to stop my vehicle.. on that day, I decided not to go for Automatic Gear..
