I met him when he did the soundtrack for The Mack, which I believe was Richard Pryor's first movies. My cousin David T. Walker was one of the studio musicians. The movie was about The Ward Brothers, Oakland Pimps, one of which was Willie. Willie helped finance the movie and appeared in a few scenes. Doing the making of the movie, the had to hurriedly shift the movie out of Oakland, down to L.A., because Willie was killed. They still got it down. I hope he got paid for all his work. Back in the early days, many writers and artist either didn't get paid, or didn't receive anywhere what they were due, and the color of the money distributor didn't matter.

My comments are respectful but I have to say how disappointed I am that you just glossed over his Album for The Mack movie. This is the soundtrack that made him known and famous in the 70s. I Choose You, Brothers Gonna Work it Out was heavily played in our black community. Its nice knowing that he worked with The 5th Dimension and of course The hits with the Jackson 5 but I'd never heard any of his songs for the Dimensions and I was a fan.
