I use these on my Harley Davidson Dyna (perhaps seems like an odd choice, I'll grant you), but they perform really well for my use-case. I live in rural NSW, and do lots of km, including a lot on gravel, camping trips etc. These are great on the road and transform the Hogglie from impossible on the gravel, to fun and safe.

Nice review! I've fitted these to my Tiger 800 after my brother bought a Tiger that already had them fitted. I test rode his bike on tar and dirt and was amazed at how well these performed for their intended purpose. Nice and quiet on the tar, impressive cornering possible, and better on the dirt than expected. Worked great on Flinders Ranges gravel roads. Have not used them in mud/grass and would not expect them to work like a knobby on those surfaces. But if you've got a big bike and cover longer distances on/off road then these are perfect.

I do wish I'd seen your excellent, and really informative review before I had the rear mounted on my KTM 1190. I ride 90% street here in Boston, almost daily, all year long... the remaining 10% is hopefully ripping up single track, or at least something fun and bumpy in the dirt! I mounted these 50/50, but would have gone mostly dirt after your bit about the spine of the tire, and the similar wear properties. Any advantage on gravel would be helpful, as I am still learning to be competent on gravelly curves! Anyway, thanks for the deep knowledge of tire geometry and construction - and the well spoken, cheerful, and friendly delivery, of it all! Looking forward to learning more. Cheers!!

I put a rock through the tread gaps going to Arkaroola. Very difficult to rebead . I now carry tubes in case of a similar event when travelling gravel roads such as the one to Arkaroola. Front tyre 32000 km , 20 % left , back tyre has been replaced due the episode with the rock , but has covered 20000 km with 40 % left. Very good tyre for long distant touring with unknown surfaces. I also find on gravel that they slide off the centre band before gripping .

Thanks for the info. Own a gs adv 1250. I use 3 sets of these and the 3 of them crack on the base of the knobbies. 2.9bar. Read everywhere is happening OR the front tire somehow losing air. It’s a tyre that goes very well with lots of durability. Safe rides

Without pictures and the full scenario of weight load and luggage terrain and speed something will be the factor however you can try more than 2.9. It does sound like the tyre is being overworked … also, how many k’s is your average tyre lasting …

Thanks for the awesome video! I learned more about tire technology from you than I have in my 47 years of riding motorcycles. After an unbelievable 10,200 miles of use I recently replaced the rear Dunlop Trailmax Mission on my 2019 Africa Twin with a Tractionator GPS. I’ve done 1,000 miles on it so far and I love the way it looks and handles. I like a more aggressive front tire and wondered what you’d suggest to replace my Trailmax Mission on the front? Living east of Phoenix in Arizona I end up riding a fair amount of pavement to get to my favorite forest roads so a 50/50 front tire is on the cards. I am a huge fan of the Dunlot Trailmax Mission Tires and was going to put them on my new R1250 GS Adventure, but saw the Motoz Tractionator GPS on a bike today and liked the looks of them. While they are both 50/50 tires, the Tractionator seems to be a more aggressive thread. I would be interested in hearing your opinion/choice between the two tires.

Thank you for the very informative video. I subscribed. I didn’t know about how to determine if the tire is a bias ply. I prefer bias ply for the sidewall strength. I’ve been using the Dunlop Trail Max Missions (TMM)on my 2019 VStrom 1000XT. I’m currently on my third set of them. I got 14,000 miles (22,500 km) out of the first set and 13,000 (20,900 km) miles out of the second set. In both cases there was significant tread life left, but I had an upcoming long distance, multi-day trip so I changed them to prevent having to do it mid-trip. The TMM performance has been very good on pavement and dry unpaved roads. The front tire has been especially good on all surfaces. The rear tends to slip more as it ages especially in wet conditions and hard acceleration. The bikes traction control catches this well. One very nice thing about the TMM rear is that it will run flat. While not recommended this can get you to a safe place to take care of the tire. I’ve thought about trying the Motoz Tractionator GPS rear tire in combination with the TMM front. Both are bias ply tires. My concern on the GPS is the solid center. It makes me wonder how it will perform on wet pavement. I live in Washington State, USA and it is wet for half the year here. Do you think the TMM front and GPS rear would be a good combination?

First of all thank you for taking the time to write this comment… i’m doing a three-part series on these tyres and I knew there would be questions similar to this along the way, “and definitely things I want to explain in more detail” so that’s why I’m giving them space between videos so I can include more information in the next two videos… and all the information is accumulative to all of the entire range, but for your specific questions regarding the TM you will find they are fantastic tyre, equal or and above depending on the reasons for use or how you ride it ha a more aggressive, front tyre but to give you a clear indication. We just don’t get that model of tyre here (australia) due to its supply to get a very informative response However, we have had them in the past and you’ll find they are all “B”which stands for belted bias tyres, which are stronger and stiffer than a standard BIAS tyres …. to determine the type of tyre which is irrelevant whether it be a truck, a trailer or a car or in this case the motorcycle … look before the RIM inch size it will be “R” for RADIAL “ - “for BIAS and “ B “ for BELTED REINFORCED BIAS tyres In your case, I would probably opt for the TM because as the rule says KIS keep it simple go with what you know & Enjoy your trip and as for Becoming more slippery in the wet when you reduce the flexible tread on the heavy carcass tyre you lose the ability to maintain traction compared to a r radial tire, which the carcass can flex as well, so this is always a little expected on all belted reinforced tyres across all ranges and brands And if you’re doing a slightly more road based or dirt road adventure, try the GPS rear and or front. Definitely consider the off-road rotation if you’re doing any dirt for the next set also look for some local knowledge for wear and tear in similar situations and on Bikes similar to yours for more detailed opinion for your circumstances…. I just finished KTM's Rally Canada with a new set of the GPS on my 1290. The back tire performed brilliantly during the two days. In all different conditions. My judgment is still out on the front tire because I thought I was lacking feel. But really the tires kept me on two wheels the whole weekend without to much issue. So how can I complain. Interesting the comment you made about the 50/50 rotation in gravel on the rear. I might try the mostly off-road to see the feel of that. I will say this though every time I gave it throttle the back tire would grip unless I was you know having fun.

Awesome review. Could you explain the 150/70B18 and 140/80B18 part? Is it just the 140, or both the 150 and 140 that have the softer compound and 3 ply sidewalls.

@@shassabo Yes easy as 150/70B18 are 4 ply tread face & 4ply sidewall And 140/80B18 are 3 ply tread face & 3 ply sidewall … both the same compound, speed & load rating 140 is slightly taller & more flexible offing more grip and a softer ride … thanks for the comment 😉

I'm planning to buy them on my T7 as well. I do ride mostly on road with just some plain gravel which can be ridden with pure road tyres as well. Did you mount the back tyre on 50/50 direction? How is the noise?

@@dragospetrache7493 I ran it in the off road direction. I wasn’t too concerned about noise. I do not recall the tire to be too noisy. I have to say the set Dual Venture and GPS were great for my use. I road 2 BDRs in Oregon and lots of other off pavement type of rides. It does take a fair amount of road travel to get to a trail. 30-45 mins.

I am interested in these for my Honda CB500X because the stock is not as good off road as they could be, I have heard mixed reviews stating that solid center portion which is great for the road , makes the tire not grab as well off road. Some said to air it down so that you use the side knobs but I honestly do not want to have to air down any tire.

I’m on a 1200GS. Ran the GPSs, and was really impressed on gravel backroads with almost no compromise on asphalt and 14,000 kms on the rear. Then switched to Dual venture front and Adventure on rear. This was to ride the IDBDR and WABDR. These are clearly my favourite tires. Motoz for me!

@@Deividuxss The Tractionator Adventure rear was good >8000kms. From 6500kms to 8000+kms there’s less tread depth on dirt but fine to ride asphalt homeward. The Dual venture front was good at 8000 kms so I remounted it in reverse to smooth out some minor cupping(this is a feature of this tire) and plan to use it another 8000 kms. It’s doing fine and anticipate it will work well for a total of 16,000 kms. Then I’ll replace both.

Would I be better off to mount the rear in the off road rotation or the 50/50 .Will it change the tread life depending on what way the rotation is?. Yes for the best tread life follow the 50/50 arrow & keep your pressures higher … Experimenting is a key but higher pressures will always give better wear.

On a 1250gsa, would you recommend the GPS front and rear, GPS/dual venture, or maybe even adventure/dual venture combo? Asking for wet weather riding on Victorian roads with 50-60% paved, then gravel and some dirt for a rider + camping gear.

Adventure and dualventure would always be the better option for the dirt However, the GPS front and rear option for slightly more on road & back road situations. have a look at all three combos closely and make a decision from what you’re already running aswell …

What tire combo did you choose? To compliment the GPS rear, I am deciding between the front Dual Venture or the GPS. The DV tire on the front will offer better offroad grip, bit I am certain it will howl down the pavement. The GPS front, it appears a bit too tame/mild for offroad: that would be more than just gravel roads and the like.

I put a set on my V-Strom this spring. Not enough kms on them yet to judge durability, but I have to say I am underwhelmed by their traction in grassy/muddy conditions. Granted, nothing short of a full on knobby is going to be good such conditions, but the GPS was a disappointment there. In rocky terrain, dirt roads, and on the pavement, I've been pleased with them. My only complaint is they're a little noisy, and a little rough on the pavement.

Great video! What are the advantages of running the rear in 50/50 orientation on paved? Why not just run offroad orientation if wear isn't affected? I ride almost all paved on a Super Tenere, often in cold and wet paved, but do ride some gravel enthusiastically. Thanks!

When in the 50-50 mode, it is more mostly on road and approximately 3 to 4 blocks engage at any one time In a mesh formation However, in the most the off-road the tire is it a different angle and only 2 to 3 blocks are involved which are more square to the Drive like a bar block style tread … it is something that you’ll May have to hold the tire above your head and rotate at an angle to understand the angles which change .. also re-watch that segment of the video which I did cover and I did try to explain that using my hands. I bought and installed this tire on my rear wheel. The carcass developed a small split at 200 miles. I removed the tire and have been trying to get Motoz to refund my money for several weeks. I don't want a replacement GPS as I found it to have terrible traction on wet pavement below 40°f. *my experience, yours will surely vary.

Yes, the more that you can reduce the Tyres shock load the better the tyre will grip so it doesn’t have to do two jobs ( grip & suspension) so any suspension adjustment will give the tyre a better chance to grip … your totally on the right path. Thanks for the comment.

I have these tires on my 2016 KLR650 and currently have 7000 km on them with 70% tread left on the rear and 85% remaining on the front. I ride a lot of gravel and after hearing your advice on what orientation to mount the rear for riding gravel (mostly off-road) is it ok to remount the rear from the current 50/50 orientation or is it too late to switch?

Absolutely, that’s definitely what I’d be doing as soon as you even say the word gravel. They work so much better at any lean because it engages one row of blocks at the time rather than a cross section of parts of multi blocks sort of like a mesh,It basically is as aggressive as the adventure when it’s in the most the off-road position, ( when leaning )which really sincerely makes it 2 Tyres in one…. Especially when accelerating out of the corner, that’s the bigger difference …

These tires give good traction, in my experience. However, I've had two people I ride with use these tires in situations where they went through cold and hot segments of their trips and both had the front tires de-laminate. One had to resort to duct tape and zip ties to keep the tread on the tire until he could get to the nearest civilization. Both are highly experienced riders with several hundred thousand miles riding. Happens once? Okay, maybe a problem with handling, mounting or something. But twice, to different people I know? I'll go with something else. Maybe it was just a bad batch, maybe it has to do with the temperature cycling. I don't know, but I'm not going to chance it. That said, credit where credit is due... They each received a new tire for free from the manufacturer.

I had the same thing with my Tractionator front, it actually cracked the sidewalls fully aired, the rear never gave any trouble and 10,000 kms, (PS, I never received a replacement tyre offer at all and I use a tyre shop not a dealer) for that I"ll never buy them again.

I hear you and I have several conversations every week and can vouch that nearly all brands of front tyres I have seen similar failure. However, when we get down to the backstory of the weight of the bike, the style of riding and the application of the tyre and then how the tyre is being used in 99% cases the tyre is being used outside its pressure zone and is failing due to the Tyre being overworked and underinflated. This is common because people who don’t set up their suspension or have chosen a tyre or have left the tyre on for a previous application, and now using it in area where they think to deflate the tyre to gain more grip causes over distortion and guaranteed delamination … having seen this with all brands, Motoz cannot be singled out for this particular situation … Also, most Motoz front tyres are 4 ply which, particularly don’t like a lower pressure because this works against the ply structure …4 Plys are there to retain the pressure and the weight so this puts the tyre into a vulnerable position when deflated outside their load holding zone .… It is very rare you’ll find this happen with a motocross. Tyre … Because of the Tyre is very flexible. It will just wear extremely fast and have disappointing tread wear … the thing to take away from this on a heavy built tyre … people try to chase grip and they let the tyre down too much … always put an aggressive Tyre on that way you don’t have to lower the pressure as much … Motoz has added to the range a Duelventure which have solved all these issues which they have been blamed for … the Adventure front tyre was really meant to be an all road mostly Onroad Tyre for a large bike that didn’t have a very good ability for off-road and run a reasonably high pressure for the loads of which it could carry .. Hope this answers your questions

I have a GPS rear on my Africa Twin and have found it very slippery on wet tar roads and no where near enough grip on good dirt roads . It’s a NO from me. I would never choose these again !!

No I don’t believe that’s the case, but I do believe that the tyre will bite better off road and this may cause more rounding of the knobs because of extra drive … is also may make the tyre looks a little bruised which may make the owner decide to replace the tire earlier however, the depth of the tread will still be the same more of an illusion really… also adding tyre gave better service in this rotation which is always better value … Thanks for your comment

These look like an absolute nightmare to mount. My bike has tubes. I don't want to have to pull one of these off the rim while away from home. I'm sure they'd be good tires for others though.

The OTHERS you speak of have been stuck on the side of the road, or a long way from any services for us in Australia. It can be the outback and this is why I definitely recommend a four ply tread face and a four ply side wall to stop this being the case of getting stuck and having to repair punctures .…. so far in my years of recommending Tyres. as strong as these I have not had a customer return and say that a tyre like this has let them down nor have they had a puncture. This is not to say someone hasn’t had a puncture, but you could possibly ride on a tyre like this to maybe get to the next town also it would be near impossible for Thai. The strong to have an instant blow out probably develop a leak which gives time to slow and stop also would make for an easy tubeless tyre repair. Of course if rim was tubeless but if people choose an easy tyre to get it on and off the rim, they’re probably choosing an easy tyre to be punctured this is the sole reason they make Tyres this Stiff and when recommending at tyre, there is great responsibility, so I would always recommend the toughest Tyre for people who choose to ride remotely thank you for your comment I hope this helps somebody…

For sure fitting these with leavers would definitely be not ideal as we use the machine in house. However we are going to do a video on tyre replacement that will prove these to be relatively easy using our technique… but you are correct as used as a tubeless would be most beneficial even to repair from the outside for a roadside repair … enjoying your comments

I had a set on my vstrom DL 650. The front was terrible on any loose dirt or worse, gravel off-road. Plus very noisy. Motas dealer installed tge frontvatca rally. The front easily washed out and zi replaced with the Shinko I had on it. The rear i had mounted for mostly off road. Itvwas very disappointing. Traction wasnt very good even airing diwn. It did handke very well on the highway had it up to 90 and was great. I got 4000 miles on it and leavingvon a trip there was .450" iches. Within 1000 mikes it had shreaded from highway running. I still have the front tire, and it's sitting in the shed. Anyone in washington stste can have it, there is 90% tread on it.

Great tire but mine vibrate between 15 and 35 mph. Noticeable coming off the stock tires. Everything else is fantastic. Has anyone else experienced this? My other thought is the dealership tried to ride my africa twin dct with the parking brake on. I think/hope it is the former.

First of all I would check if your rim is true. We have seen a lot of rims damaged with standard low ply tyres …Then I would also have the wheel balanced in front of you. The standard tyres are very light and will absorb a lot of road detail. Motoz tyres are a lot stiffer and heavier and need balancing … But this goes for any new tyre fitted …

Best to go to your local shop for confirmation, but they do make a GPS in a 120/70-17 front and also the full range is available in a 130/80-17 for the rear which should fit …

Sounds like projection from you roni? I put the gps on the rear and Dualventure tubeless (with tubes) on on the front of my 650 Suzuki and they were a good combo for my recent trip to Broken hill. About 600km of dirt and a bit more bitumen. They went well. All dry, but gravel, sand, rocks and hard packed off-road. I like them.

@@Angry-Lynx it’s my honest opinion mate, but I hope you’re happy with them. My theory with tyres is that the back wheel goes where the front does, so getting the front tyre right is important. I like a more aggressive front so I chose the Dualventure which is chunky enough without being a proper knobby. It seemed to work ok.

Can these be used on standard rims that use tubes? I have a KLR650
