Motul 8100 X-Clean EFE | 2018 Subaru WRX

After using the Subaru synthetic oil In my 2018 WRX for nearly 30k miles, I finally made the switch over to Motul. I know "oil is oil" but I was curious on what differences (if any) Motul has over the OEM Subaru oil. Unfortunately, I didn’t do an oil analysis but there’s plenty of data surrounding Motul.

I tried Motul for my first oil change and it was okay, but I just did my second oil change and went to my oil I use in all my project cars which is the Amsoil signature series. Got to love that fomoto valve! I need to get one for my wife’s car😅

Amsoil was my second choice! I know it’s hard to tell without an actual oil analysis but did you feel Amsoil was better for the car?

@@ronfromportland with my other cars the oil was always still a good color when I changed it after 4K miles and engine ran smoothly. I just changed my oil last weekend with the Amsoil but after less than 3500 miles since last oil change which was my first oil change and I did use the motul 5w-40 and oil was pretty dark. But it was the first oil change.

I always thought of getting a Fumoto valve but read about a concerns that particles/debris get trapped below the threaded part that goes inside the oil pan and that the debris aren't able to flow out normally with the oil. Any thoughts on this issue? Or maybe it's not even an issue?

@@jggarage1807 I remember reading about this a while back. I don’t believe it’s a concern, at least I’ve never had this issue. I like to think that the oil filter will do its job and pick up any contaminants in the oil. I suppose it won’t hurt to remove and inspect the valve once in a while though.

What kind of oil drainpan is that? I had something similar and oil just spilled out, caused a mess As a side note, what I do for oil changes. I don't fill up the oil filter because on these cars they have something called a "Clear Flood Mode". What it does is it allows the car to crank but not fire since there is no spark/ it primes the engine with oil and fill the filter with oil as well. To do it, have in neutral and push both the clutch and gas down at the same time and keep cranking it till the oil pressure light goes out. But only crank for like 5-6 seconds at a time. Works for me every time. You can attempt it whenever the next time you start your car to see how it works.

The drain pan is just a standard one from Harbor Freight. It spills if too much oil flows through the hole but it does pretty well most of the time. I had no idea our cars had this feature. It seems very helpful. Thanks for that, I will try it out!

@@ronfromportland I wouldn’t bother. Clear Flood cranks the engine without spark to clear a possible fuel flooded combustion chamber (feature on fuel injected cars for decades). It just wears on the starter without firing up the engine. Less wear to let it prime while starting so you are cranking less overall. Literally got some Motul last week to try on my next change. Skeptical that it’s worth the extra cost, too. Jealous of the Legy. Always wanted one but too pricey and hard to find (especially with a manual tranny).

@@aaronanderson5573 very good to know. Yeah, the Subaru oil has done good for me. Curious to know how Motul is after a couple thousand miles. Amsoil is next on my list. Thanks man. I’m trying to see what a “fair” price is for the LGT. I’m looking to sell it. It’s a 5 speed. I need a truck for house things.

@@ronfromportland Couldn’t find an LGT to save my life 10 years ago, same with the FXT.lol You could go different route and get an f-250 turbo diesel. Utility and crazy quick when tuned. Your vid with dad had me rolling, btw. Quick pick/scratch/point… is my car slow?lol Mine is just like, “you’re going too fast and gonna get pulled over.”

It’s hard to say without doing an oil analysis but the car ran fine after the oil change. I used motul again for the next oil change with no issues. I hope this helps.

It’s the steering responsive headlights that came on the limited models. My guess is that they recalibrate when the car is turned on.

Sp how is this oil? Here in europe italy is so common motul o bardhal the best, I just bought your same one 5w30 efe extra fuel economy 8100 is one of the best motul produce...Im waiting that it will arriving! I never used, I use to use bardahl that really fell the difference, less braking when release the gas pedal, and more quite and smooth motor, I hope is the same with motul

@@cal87249 I think the one in this video (xclean efe) meets newer regulations with the additives. Not exactly sure what the difference is with the xclean+. My guess is that it has different additives for different regulations. I’m not usually particular about which oil to use but both of these are great so far.
