For a then-current year car, another competing team could correlate the hp change over the sound frequency change to practically obtain a torque curve estimate. Just like you wouldn't release a CAD of your vehicle frame to others, you might not want your competitors to know the exact bands of horsepower in detail in case your power unit is doing well and they want to reverse-engineer what you did. The peak hp value is not a secret, teams share it for the yearly competition magazine; it's the shape of the curve that is a secret. Just a thought from an ex-competition participant
