It looks like this map produces pretty tense, down-to-the-wire siege battles, awesome.

Flags were mainly used to guide soldiers; it enabled large numbers of soldiers in the same unit to be guided without confusion. It would be really hard to order troops around by just shouting, especially with all the mayhem in battles. Musicians were used to encourage soldiers, create a marching beat, display orders to the soldiers, and to entertain such as when a battle was victorious musicians would usually play their national anthem.

flags and music would not necessarily give away an armies position due to the fact that stealth warfare was not really used in battles from that time period. in addition, guns back then were so inaccurate that armies would usually confront each other. (was not really possible to surprise an enemy back then)

Yes, the musket does alot more damage. One or two hits will kill and they are easier to use. However, If you are good at using a sword then it ban be more effective than a musket. (He isn't very good with swords)

This is far from dead. Siege, RP, zombies, and the Official NA 1 server is always populated by like usually 70+ not to mention that regiments are everywhere and their are Events everyday
