@@christopherfritz3840 no, I have also trekked to EBC in 2016, the main thing that's required is mental strength and discipline. Discipline because I have seen a lot of people do stupid shit, get sick on the way and then coming back. Mental strength because you have to have that since a lot of times you will feel the high altitude effects, but if you have the right mindset, you'll not panic. Physically speaking, obviously it would help that you're in good shape, since some parts of the trek, specifically between phakding and namche bazaar is quite challenging.

Two things I want to comment on, first climbing Everest is as much about the climber conquering his/her own fears, it is not the most difficult climb but it is treacherous as the many deaths have signalled, secondly, their is something about the majesty of this mountain and the huge effort required to complete a successful climb, going to the moon is a team effort as is climbing this or any serious mountain, we can rejoice in the fact that the climbers who master themselves as well as the climb carry all of us with them, i can truly be grateful that I will never see this mountain never mind attempt to conquer it but I know that I will always admire the men and women who struggle to do the almost impossible and live to tell the tale, nothing better than a climbers story, thanks for all the effort, I for one appreciate the sacrifices you all make to achieve your dream, thank you.

you could have included the 1)distance one must traverse in each stage, 2) average time to complete each stage. so, how many days or weeks to complete the whole process (upon arrival at base camp til i reach the peak)?

Most people dont realize that climbing everest is a) a very long process because your body has at be accustomed to these different heights. You go to camp 1 and then go back to base camp. At some point you get to camp 2 and down again. You will spend months on that mountain before you have a very small window to try for the summit. b) its very expensive and you its best to find someone to sponsor you, because paying this one out of your own pocket is the cost of a house.

Thanks for the vid, it helped me a lot to know about the route before watching the Movie "Everest". The only thing I wonder is: Reading Messners report from 1978 (not the solo one, which he did from Northridge), he mentions a camp V on this route (on 8200 m). But all "modern" sources just list 4 camps on way. Has a 5th camp become obsolete on this route (with still 900m !!! left for summit "attack") over the years?

Correct. In 1990 when I was there, the road ended in a town called Jiri at about 4,000'. Then it was 2 weeks of hiking and hostels/camping to to the last outcrop of huts at Kala Pattar. I gassed out there at 17,000, suffering from all kinds of altitude sickness (upset stomach, throwing up, major headache, can't breathe right, no energy, no appetite). The base camp is at 21,000'. Then another 8,000' to the summit. Good luck.
