Durin really woke up on his own, freezing in a massive cavern and went "Nah" then walked hundreds of miles to go look at a lake.

And then "many other dwarves soon joined him". But where the hell did they actually come from, just occurred to me. From the other houses? If Durin woke up alone, then I guess the other six dwarf leaders awoke with other dwarves next to them, bc otherwise where would their offspring come from? And IF Durin actually woke up alone, would that then mean that the people of the Longbeards was actually somewhat the leftovers/adventurers from other clans?

@@muenchhausenmusicI think he was alone except for his wife. The other dwarves were in a group of two males and two females. Or at least that was the number that were in the different mountain ranges. The pairs may have awakened in different locations in the same mountains. But in Gundabad it was just Durin and Mrs. Durin

For anyone wondering: the Dwarven stronghold shown in 1:42 is called Nordinbad.
@romandacil398415 сағат бұрын
I have the MERP (Middle-Earth Role Playing) module Mt Gundabad and it gives a pretty good account of the place from a non-Tolkien view point. If I remember right the Orcs of Gundabad did assail Thranduil from the North and were defeated along with Orcs from Dol Guldur in the Battle Under the Trees during the War of the Ring.

I have a idea for a video, although you explained why Eriador remained depopulated i always had the question why was also most of Rohan and Gondor depopulated? Like Gondor in the end of the Third Age only had 3 cityes. Minas Tirith, Pelargir and Dol Amroth and Minas Tirith only held half the population it could, and most of the Western country side was mostly underpopulated. And Rohan didnt really expand its population since its founding either.

The constant war with Mordor and it's neighbors is probably why Gondor looks like a wasteland Cause it was lol
@АнтонОрлов-я1ъ23 сағат бұрын
Because human (especially Numenorean) populations of the Middle-Earth increased slower than the populations of the real world, while wars, plagues and natural catastrophes were more deadly. On the other hand, it is important to notice that not to overestimate the level of depopulation. Not all cities and towns are shown on the map. For example. at least three additional towns were mentioned in the books in Gondor - Calembel, Linhir and Harlond*. Those towns are mentioned only because Aragorn and the Grey Company marched through them. I think it is reasonable to assume that there were many more towns in Gondor that were not mentioned at all. Similarly, only Edoras and Helm's deep are depicted in Rohan, but we know that at least Dunharrow and Aldburg also existed. Rohan's population also increased since the time of Eorl, although not very significantly - eotheod during the time of Eorl could muster about 8k cavalry, while Rohan during the time of Theoden could muster at least 12k. *Not to be confused with Harlond in Lindon.

I said it before and I will say it again a lot of dwarven problems would have never happened or be mitigated it they recaptured Gundabad. When it was first captured they probably had the strength to reclaim it, they had the rest of the Misty Mountains, Erebor and the Iron Hills they were in regular contact with the other clans and had many allies both human and elven they could have called upon. But they didn’t leading to the orcs slowly moving down the mountain chain till they were near Khazad-dum itself. Meaning many dwarven lives and minor holds captured. And if these places were still in dwarven hands then the evacuation of khazad-dum would have been easier, and there would have been no need to move to Erebor or the Grey Mountains meaning no war of the dragons, no Smaug and no war of dwarves and orcs. Also as a bonus Angmar would have been weaker with either no orcs and trolls or less as their wouldn’t have been a readymade orc army for the witchking to call upon in the misty mountains that had over two thousand years to breed seemingly unimpeded

It’s kind of weird that the dwarves retook Gundabad after Thror was killed. Then they just left it again. Since Moria was too dangerous, Gundabad might have been a new home for the Erebor dwarves. I guess it just wasn’t viable.

Is it possible that the reason why Bolg inhabited Gundabad instead of Moria is because Azog had other sons, one of whom continued to rule Moria?
@АнтонОрлов-я1ъКүн бұрын
It is a possibility. But Gundabad and not Moria was considered the capital of goblins (although we have no direct indication that Moria itself was under Gundabad rule). So Gundabad definitely wasn't Bolg's apanage. Maybe Bolg inherited Gundabad not from his father but from his grandfather or his uncle. Although of course we know almost nothing about Orc dynasties, kingdoms and inner politics. It is completely possible that Bolg conquered Gundabad in a war between different Orcish kingdoms and not inherited it at all, for example. In that case it may be more likely that one of Bolg's sons ruled Moria as an under-king.

I've grown to hate channels like this. The more you pick at Tolkien's world the more its clear he had no idea how nature worked, geography or demographics, economics, medieval warfare or in fact anything beyond languages. An analysis of his works diminishes them and make him look tarded. He knew mythology and that never survives analysis. Maybe it's time for Darth Gandalf and other channels to sod off and we all go back to the wonder of the books we first read as stupid teenagers.
