Mount Morgan Mine was a copper, gold and silver mine which operated from 1882 to 1981, with all operations officially ceasing in 1990. Whilst the site has sat largely unused since then, a treatment facility and its team have been tending to the huge pit of water which contains elevated levels of copper, aluminium, magnesium and other metals. Whilst controlled releases of water during heavy rainfall have been conducted, the mine overflowed into the nearby Dee River in 2013. An estimated 327,000 ounces of gold still exist at the site. After decades of locals and officials advocating to have the site reopened, the QLD government has finally funded works to redevelop and reopen the site whilst also retaining anything that is classed as heritage listed.

Around 1989/90, I worked on the mine site, demolishing the old crusher plant. The one constructed in the 60s up on the flat between the pit and the old slurry tanks. My mate and I spent a lot of time exploring through the old buildings. It was/is a trippy place.

Awesome Brad! I could see what looked like a lot of old building remanants, had a feeling that they may have already gotten rid of some over the years. Assuming most of what is currently left will be retained under heritage hopefully. Not wrong, real throwback in time and the overwhelming size of it really hits home in person.

Cool place. There's gold everywhere they just keep it scarce enough to make it valuable. By what you said there's still over a billion dollars of gold there. If you get the government involved it'd cost 2 billion to dig it up! Good video mate, glad to see you posting.

It is a shithole. It is now a town where the scourge of society live now. They have only literally been connected to town water from Rockhampton.

this site reminds me so much of the last of us. however you would have been sweet during the end of the video. Nobody would have checked that at all.

Video game location for sure! Better to be safe than sorry with modern cameras, was a long way from home and was just glad to have actually explored it unscathed. Can't help but wonder what was in those buildings though, hopefully they'll open them to the public one day.
