Well technically, the outrage and call for it to be re-themed didn’t come about until may of this year and before then I’ve not much on it being controversial
@thecrazydisneyparksfanatic9214 жыл бұрын
At least if there was one prior to this it wasn’t highly talked about and I never heard a high demand for it until back may/June. Before then it was never heard of hardly, at least not like it is now, and I’ve never heard much on the ride itself being racist. True, the characters on it was from a movie that was “considered” racist by some, but that has been known even back when the ride was originally built but yet they still managed to make it work and kept the parts from the movie that was considered that out of it

@matthewheid61304 жыл бұрын
Well after listening to their discussion on the retheme, the folks at WDWNT don't seem to have a problem with the ride changing, but what they do have a problem with is the IP being used for WDW's version. They argue that a Louisiana-based ride shouldn't be in Frontierland. Tom Corless wrote a nice editorial on why "The Western River Expedition" should replace Splash Mountain instead.

TONTO SOLIS In WDW it makes zero sense, at Disneyland it ruins the balance the park has. New Orleans Square would have to replace Critter Country which would be a huge loss in and of itself, making that land too large, and removes a lot of variety.

@prepare2qualify1114 жыл бұрын
The movie wasn't racist, the issue is that since the movie isn't publicly available, nobody can watch it for themselves to form their own opinion. Because of this, everyone has to base their opinions on what other people say. I've heard from many people who actually went out of their way to watch it, and most of them say that the film either wasn't racist at all, or at east that it was way better than they expected.
@disneyxmandy98464 жыл бұрын
@@prepare2qualify111 It's really not...it's about a young boy who forms a really heartwarming relationship with an older black gentleman and the movie teaches about friendship, courage and most importantly- Standing up to bad people. What is even more sad than it being misconstrued with racism is the fact that it's being hidden the same way Gone with the Wind is now being swept under the rug. Coincidentally, both movies star Hattie McDaniel who was the first african american actress to win an oscar. Her films are being hidden and cleaned from history! Is that not far worse than confronting the outdated stereotypes/tropes that could be used for conversations on misrepresentation in early film?

Tess d'Urberville you have google you can research it yourself. But I’d rather not have a ride based off a story made by a white man who profited it off African Folklore used by slaves as a form of entertainment and escapism. Also it’s best not to show a movie right after slavery as if all African Americans are happy signing on a some field as if everything is okay. Now I’d be totally happy for the ride today if they did a small narration as the log first takes off. Explaining the folklore, etc. I have happened to watch the movie and enjoyed it but I’m not ignoring the racist aspects it has like everyone is.

You would rather pick a part. Don't think no got your racist jab about the poor(just because people of other hues(races do make money enough to vacation in Disney property you are sadly mistaken) Enjoy your song ,I will pass on feeling to the masses, we will see if you wrote your own Swan song..

Corey Dudley I agree. It's so disheartening to see so many of my favorite Disney KZbinrs show their true colors. Much like all of America it seems, we prefer to keep our racism and prejudices, in order to preserve our ideal of "greatness", all the while claiming compassion and "values" in the face of the folks actually suffering said prejudices. And the confidence displayed . Such a shame.

@@CastawayRJ I think you've missed the point Corey and I have made . You say "many people" . Yes, Many of us love. Splash Mountain in its original form. But, once the truth came out about meaning of the film and that the original ride was met with backlash it was still built because Disney Co. didnt't care about those people who voiced their opinions years ago. Now years later we want to keep a ride that shouldn't have been built. If disney had done the right thing we wouldnt even have to be having this conversation. look as a musician and graduate student i get how clever and well written this parody song was. Even well performed. Yet, it still makes light of a serious situation. So yes i get "the point" of the song but it still seems like with the types of responses that i've seen on social media "many people" still don't understand the cultural ramifications of the film and ride. To date I feel DSNY Newscast has had the best response to tackling this situation. No parody just mature dialogue. Finally, I make way more than Disney could offer me but thanks for the recommendation. Cheers!

@@CastawayRJ eh, you've missed the point again. We all know there isnt anything racist in the ride. Easy fact elucidated by a simple google search the Source material however is. You can also e a s i l y search how many videos have been made on why the film isn't available. Peterpan has a ride, the film can be watched. Little mermaid has a ride, film can be watched. can't be said of Song of the South. what's more is even disney is embarrassed of the film. Tell a child yes you went on Splash Mountain but you cant watch the film and have THAT conversation. All of the shame and embarrasment indicatates 1) shouldn't have been made in the first place 2) contested voices should have been listened to years ago 3) it should be re-imagined which is what is happening. I posted elsehwere that i indeed love the original music and all. But, once i learned the source material was racist, as has been stated by you, it had to go. Millions agree. Walt himself said Disney would " continue to grow" now is Splash Mountain's time to grow. check out DSNY newscast for a mature and *innovative* response to the situation. Not continuing the discussion as we both clearly have access to resources to answer all of your rebuttals. Consider compassion for an experience that isn't yours. " You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew". Take care of yourself.
