Can’t remember how many times I’ve backpacked up there. I’m 67, and two hip replacements later, I have tears seeing this.❤️ 13:11

Very nice and relaxing video to watch. My friend and I just did this loop this past weekend except we camped at the Little Round Valley campground before summiting the next day and then finishing the loop. You are strong hiker to make it so far to that camp in one day.

I’ve done Marion, C2C and the Deer Springs/Wellmans Cienega loop as day hikes and the loop was definitely my favorite. Beautiful views and very serene (I never go on weekends). Thanks for the great video,

Proud of ya’. Done the hike many times the first time to the peak in my 50s. I can see the peak from my living room window in the valley below. ✌🏻

Thanks for posting the video of your trip. I know that area well and I like the campsite you chose. I hope some it gets some rain and snow this year.

Wow. The formidable Mt.San Jacinto of the PCT section C. Hikers have died underestimating this mountain and their own fitness/capabilities. Would be a great challenge hiking through this during the winter with full alpine gear.

It’s a tough one! Definitely a good training hike especially for elevation!

Awesome. Love the chill Bossa music. Can you just walk to Idylwood Ranger Station and request an overnight permit to camp? M-F 9-5PM? Good shakedown hike for the PCT. Is it necessary to bring a Bear canister? Looks like it - they add weight.
@beeswildlife Жыл бұрын
Yes you can just show up at the ranger station, but you will have a better chance at reserving a permit if you do it ahead of time. I don’t think a bear can is required since some campsites have a bear box you can use to store food, but if you’re dispersed camping you’ll want some kind of bear proof food storage.

Great video, I really like the music! I’m planning on a very similar route next week. Do you mind sharing where exactly you think that campsite was in the national forest? I’d like to stay there if it works into my trip. Thanks!

Hi great video: like so beautiful and can't wait to go sometime. I wasn't aware you needed a bear can in San jacinto.

Hey Catherine! Glad you enjoyed my video :) I hope you make it out to Idyllwild because it is so beautiful! When I picked up my overnight permit at the Ranger Office, I mentioned that I brought a bear canister and asked if it was necessary to carry it with me. The Ranger told me that it would be a good idea to bring it since I have it but it is not a requirement. It is also worth noting that at the Idyllwild campground, where I spent the night before starting my hike, there were metal bear boxes at each campsite. I don't think they would have bear boxes there if there wasn't a bear population in the area.

@@beeswildlife so I got to go this last weekend! Stayed at strawberry flats. There's no water right now and went through my three liters. It was incredibly beautiful and had the best time!! Froze my bum off though. It snowed a little. 27 degrees at night🥶

@@cubweekly that’s awesome!! Isn’t it such a magical place?! Although 27 and snowing is a little too chilly for my liking haha I’m glad you had a great trip!!

You said it correctly , the peak of the San Jacintos. I used to live there under suicide rock and was also a forest ranger there age 16.

The Palm Springs Tram drops you offs near Long Valley. Round valley is where most overnight hikers camp outs befores ascending the peak.

Why did the ranger call it a “lollipop” trail. Deer springs rough
@beeswildlife2 жыл бұрын
I’m thinking it’s because the trail is kinda shaped like a lollipop when you outline it on the map, although that name makes it sound like an easy walk, when it most definitely is not! Haha

Love the vid...new subscriber. Came across your video researching if the trail is to difficult for my joints since I have rheumatoid arthritis. Planning to hike with my son and spend one night. How would ya rate the trail in difficulty from 1 to 10. 10 being most difficult? Any recommendations?
@beeswildlife3 жыл бұрын
Welcome! This would be a great overnight trip for you and your son! The hike to the peak is pretty tough, mostly uphill. Starting from Deer Creek Trailhead it was 6 miles to the top and about 5,000 ft of elevation gain. I am a pretty experienced and fit hiker so I would rate it like a 6.5/10 for difficulty. Here is a link for the trail that I did: www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-jacinto-peak-loop-trail If you stay at the Idyllwild Campground the night before you can walk over to the trailhead. But, there are other starting points that would make the trip shorter with less elevation gain, like Marion Mountain Trailhead or even if you take the gondola up. I have found that using hiking pole helps a bunch with the elevation. It relieves some pressure on my knees on the downhills and has saved me from falling many times. I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have more questions!

Doing it from the tram station is really nice, about the same distance, but only about 2600’ of elevation gain. 😊

Thanks for sharing your experience! Planning on doing this loop in a few weeks but am nervous about the permits- did you mail your application in advance or just get it at the ranger station? Did you have a backup plan if the campgrounds were full? Thanks!
@beeswildlife2 жыл бұрын
I did not mail in the permit. I picked up my permit and made my campground reservation with the rangers. My backup plan was to just backcountry camp in the National Forest.
