Mountain bike camping (bikepacking) Wollemi National Park NSW Australia

A fantastic, scenic four day ride from Lithgow to Sandy Hollow through the Wollemi National Park along the Bicentennial National Trail. Camping at Baal Bone Gap, Grassy Mountain, and Sandy Camp Hut. Also checking out the livery stable a cave containing ancient aboriginal art and was once used by bushrangers.

Rewarding looking trip

I'm always worried about such multi-day rides through the bush in case something dramatic (ie. bad malfunction) happens to my bike. Stuck out in the middle of nowhere with a non-repairable bike would be just my luck. The irony of this is that I live in the Blue Mtns and have done multi-day bushwalks all my life (now in my 60s) and never worry - I trust my legs, my sense of direction and my fitness level to get me out of any situation. Sure I've been temporarily "lost" on the odd occasion but never worried. I even severely tore the cartilage in my knee on one trip and still had 60km left to walk - still managed to get out on my own (although I paid for it later). But I don't have the same sort of courage when it comes to multi-day trips on bikes. The major problem is that I don't trust my own mechanical skills. I think it's critical that there is always someone along for the ride who can fix just about any problem that the bike may throw up on such a trip. I love watching people doing these types of trips. Good on you fellas. Quite an experience.
