Late 80s MTBs just had SOMETHING, I don't know but it was awesome! For me, the pre-Direct Drive Specialized were 2-wheel royalty. ❤

Just found one of these on the side of the road and all it needed was new tires and a new derailer. I think it was a pretty good find!

Wow! This same bike was sitting in the large material recycling trailer at our landfill. I asked the attendant if I could have it. I took it home for parts mainly, but realized it was complete but for some aged parts. I cleaned it off, made some adjustments, no greasing, pumped up the tires, changed pedals and added comfort seat, it rides great. I would like to put a rise-type bar for more upright position but probably want to change older stem for clamp type because non flat bars won't go into stem too easy plus it has that internal front brake cable location. It's a extra large frame bike with rear rack. Nice bike!

Nice job LH! Way to keep it original! Bought mine in 88' and wasn't sure of the paint scheme back then.. Digging it now though. 🐸

Lance, Nice job on the refurbishment. I just picked up this exact same year/ model and color scheme. About in the same condition. Hoping to put it back on the road/ trails shortly.

great job, and lovely bike, it should ride better than many modern bikes, probably not far off in weight either

Yep, lighter even, as anything labeled "mountain bike" as well as most hybrids these days have suspension forks, bigger wheels, etc. A rigid fork with 2.4" tires rides nicer to me than a cheap suspension fork anyway.

These bikes are so rare to find in Europe. I think in the 80s and 90s Specialized wasn't selling much in Europe.

what was the size of the seatpost? 26.4 or 26.6?

Did you get new cables for it? I still have my old HardRock I bought when in College back in the late 80s and am going to get her back into shape but the cables I'm sure are needing replaced. Thanks for the video it was relaxing to watch. :)

does anyone know how much these bikes go for

I just bought one built up by a local mechanic, fully serviced and adjusted, with a single chainring eight speed drivetrain, BMX stem and bars, big Cyclops tires, and a rack for $235. That's unbelievable to me, considering the work he put in and the bike I wound up with. I see other shops online offering similar bikes for more like $450 and up. I live in a very small city in a poor state, so that affects prices.

I can't remember. I fixed up that bike for my friend's son. I don't have it anymore.

It's something weird like 26.4. Don't quote me on that, but you'll have to go to a bike shop to get it sized.
