Mountain Biking Whinlatter Blue Route | With Red the Trail Dog

Back up at Whinlatter Forest in The Lake District. We head out for an easy spin around the Quercus Trail/Blue Route and take Red along for the ride. This trail is relatively short, provides some great views, and it's always easy to take a quick shortcut back to the car park which makes it a great route for families or beginner riders, or in our case teaching a dog to follow you down the trail! There's one particular bit of flowy descent so a bit of fun for everyone. Hope you enjoy!

Funny story: I did this run with my dad a while back and it was snowing with blizzards and about a foot of snow on the side of the tracks. At one moment my dad was quite far away and i said "come on dad!" At this rather ironic moment i swerved slightly and hit a massive tree stump with my front wheel and went straight over the bars onto the floor and landed on my knees....no knees were damaged....unfortunately i cant say the same for my pride. 😂

Great video and such a well-trained pup! :) I never ride without my border collie, Jade. She always amuses me by laying down and stetching out all her legs in any stream or puddle she finds. Or a patch of cool grass or snow, which she loves to roll around and play in! A tip for that: buy a waterproof seat cover for your back seats and train Red to stay in the back. I have a doberman and collie, and that's saved my car from mud and fur and tears since i got it. 😊 keep havin fun riding!!

Don't just train them to stay in the back, tether them with a safety harness and seat belt. Dogs need seat belts too!

Border collies are so smart that if you got hurt on the trail, they would apply first aid and drive you to the hospital! lol :)

We carry a dog first aid kit which I always thought was for if he had an accident, but maybe it's for him to use on us 🤔😂

Hey mate great video and an awesome dog to ;) And I also have a border collie trail dog. She will also find a stream/muddy puddle to drink or lay in to cool herself down with when on the trails lol :D but is also the best biking buddy I've ever had and keeps her fit and healthy and me ... somewhat fit and healthy lol ;)

Thanks for watching and for the nice comments! I've actually upgraded to the Hero 7 now and have been testing it out with a chin cam setup which I'll be posting a video on soon. Think that combines the best of both the visor and chest mounts, without needing a bulky gimbal on your chest haha

Hey, I notice the forestry commission trail map says no dogs allowed on the mob trails. Do you know if this is wrong or is it not usually enforced??

I hadn't heard about this, but there's nobody there to enforce it. I'd definitely not recommend going through the day as the trails get very busy and wouldn't be great with a dog. Stick to early morning or later evening and you barely see anyone 👍

I'd give the south loop a go first, it's got some pretty open and fast sections but a little more technical up top. The north loop is probably my favourite though, but worth checking out a map and taking a shortcut up to the middle section instead of riding the whole thing, from there onwards is the best 👍
