Can't wait to try the biscuits and gravy. A while back my wife and I broke out some MH beef stroganoff after a long hike with our daughter and son. Both of them loved it, and now before we hike the first question out of their mouths is: "Are we taking Mountain House?" If a finicky 15 year old girl and 7 year old boy like it, then you know it's got to be good. I've even stocked it in our earthquake supplies. Great vid, as usual. Keep 'em coming!

I had my first one the other night after a cool 30 degree nap in the woods. It was great, and it was my first MountainHouse meal. I didn't stir, just moved it around with my hands every couple minutes after i sealed it. The biscuits had just a bit of crisp on them, makes it seem like a fresh baked biscuits and gravy. Thumbs up. Way up.

A lot of people have said this already, but I'm still going to say it. You guys produce footage that is not only informative and high quality, but also interesting. Seeing all the different angles and getting a feel for it all makes me want to call this art. I feel like even people who don't ever go hiking would enjoy watching this because it is just so entertaining.

I backpacked Isle Royale for 5 days two years ago and for convenance sake I ate Mountain House breakfasts and dinners every day. I was impressed with the flavors, ease of prep and the quantity of food. I carried mostly their Pro Packs as these seemed to have the calorie counts I needed. Eggs and potatoes just seems to get me going better in the morning than oatmeal.😎🏕👨🌾

I came here after reading reviews for it on Amazon. I am pleased with what people have to say about Mountain House. For me it's all about the taste. My intended use would be survival and camping. I am not expecting a five star meal. I have browsed the selections that they offer. This is just one that appeals to me.

The biscuits and gravy are one of my favorites from Mountain House. I haven't had any that I didn't like. They are easy to make and very lightweight to carry. I've tried other brands but always come back to Mountain House. Thanks for the review. Enjoy and be safe.

That is my favorite breakfast meal from mountain house. All there breakfast meals are tasty. I use the package to carry all the garbage I may generate while outdoors. As for the high sodium content your right about needing to replace that on a hike or while doing other camp tasks. There not the kind of meals you would eat every day but for out door activities they fit the bill. Good review. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy & be safe !

The norweigan company Drytech.no has a lineup of field meal called REAL MEAL that taste just amazing! A little on the expensive side but it's gonna hold much longer due to being both freezedired and vacuumpacked in the bag. I have a few bags that are 3-4 years after expirationdate but since the vacuum is still there it's good to eat. And tastes like at the restaurant!

I met one guy who was hiking the whole AT and was only eating Mountain house. They are not cheap nor ultralight, but that same guy carried a laptop, extra battery, internet thing, sat phone, and a extra battery for it. Apparently he was a businessman at night and a hiker during the day haha. Also I didn't meet him near the start it was in Shenandoah half way though the trail and he brought his laptop the whole way.

hiking as a whelp in the early 80s we would take the kitchen sink if it would fit,pack size not weight was the limit. Now I see these people counting every gram when hiking for a couple months on end and my mind boggles. I carry less now then when I was in the single digits and I'm far more comfortable in both carry and sleep and I have my electronic toys and batteries. A head lamp for my antiquated e-ink kindle and charger for my phone to provide white noise to drown out the snoring of my trail mates. I choose not to see it as you youngins have no idea but now is the future! we used to have one pack of freeze dried icecream for every 4 scouts and it was called astronaut food.

I am sensitive to foods high in sodium so mountain house foods aren't an option for me. I don't know why they don't have at least some recipes that are low in sodium, I would definitely buy them... For now I am stuck creating my own meal packs.
@darylgud76013 жыл бұрын
Being this was done 7 years ago, things have probably changed. But I wonder what the price was for it? I have heard that mountain house is expensive. I do Biscuts and gravy too but with real food. I use an english muffin, which keeps for weeks on a trail and a white Gravy mix. One packet of gravy makes 2 cups. I use 1/4 of the packet to make a half a cup of gravy. First I fry up some sausage, or do it at home and put in a baggie. In a pinch you can use beef jerky crumbled or minced. warm up the meat and then in the same pan make the half cup of gravy while the muffins are toasting by the fire, then pour the gravy over it. If you really want it good poach an egg or two to go an the muffin. this meal will cost you under a dollar. With another half of gravy mix, put some chicken from a foil packet in a pot with 1 and 1/3 cup of water, i/2 packet of gravy mix, a packet of ramon noodle broken up, (if you like it salty add 1/2 of the ramon flavoring and some freeze dried or frozen mixed veg. When the noodles are soft it is done, simmering for about 6 min. This meal will cost you maybe a little over a dollar. Try them you will like them. at least my scouts always did.

Excellent video as always guys! I have heard alot of good things about Mountain House, too bad they are quite hard to come by here in Sweden. If you can find it in the states, I do recommend the Swedish brand 24 Hour Meals. They make ready to eat food similar to the US Military MREs and taste amazing! Since they are not freeze dried they weigh a bit more then a Mountain House meal but the taste makes up for it in my opinion.

@fordxbgtfalcon9 жыл бұрын
+christian seely pro-pak has a longer shelf life.
@Ringele55749 жыл бұрын
Pro Pak seems to be vacuumed sealed. I don't think the shelf life (12 yrs.) is any longer though.
@thedavephan9 жыл бұрын
+christian seely The pro pack has roughly half of the food that the regular pouch has. The only other difference is that it's vacuum sealed so that it won't expand at high elevations. It does not increase or decrease shelf life at all.

tempest091 That depends on the day and the activities I plan to do. And because I'm usually testing knives, I'll change what I carry pretty often. But on this day I had my Mora Companion.
