You added too much water. They always, in every freeze-dried entree I've ever seen, tell you to add about 1 ounce more water than is optimal for texture and presentation. I don't know why but every single one does this.

Larry, you can't review emergency rations like you do frozen meals! The scale is completely different. Why not get yourself in a survival type situation where you don't eat for 12 hours, then try the Mountain House Freeze Dried Breakfast Skillet again...

Mountain House is the gold standard for freeze-dried backpacking meals. Almost all others have way more additives and fillers. Its not going to be as good as a home cooked gourmet meal, but when you're miles away from civilization its about the best lightweight hot meal you can get.

The "bacon flavor" you refer to is likely liquid smoke as it as a bacon-like flavor. It goes great with most salty foods, in my experience, but not everyone likes it. I tend to use it for soup and stew, meat and fish, eggs, and the list goes on. You CAN put it on bacon but that can be overwhelming. And it's easy to use too much and ruin meals.

When you're out backpacking these are actually really nice. Just heat up some water in the Jetboil and you're done.

I’ve had this before as part of a Meal, Cold Weather military ration. Yeah, add less water. Otherwise, I quite like that ration menu.

I was out camping in a campground next to a sporting event I was attending. It got colder and wetter than what was forecasted. So heating one of those meals up for breakfast was like eating a five-star meal. At least for the moment.

I've had this before, and I thought it was delicious. My experiences with freeze dried foods have been that they're good, but nothing retains its texture through the freeze drying process. Also, the trick is not to pour it out of the bag. Since it's all dry, sometimes it gets very crumbly, like that one looked like. That makes the texture and appearance definitely more mushy as well. Great video, love this series!

Enjoy the channel. I earn enough to feed my family good food, but I’m a simple man and sometimes(frequently) eat quickie meals like this. Don’t put the recommended amount of water and let it sit for another 5 minutes, makes a HUGE difference. Plus salt and pepper, I carry a travel pack in my lunch box and hiking pack. Also, I have eaten your egg, hash brown, sausage breakfast “pizza” almost every week since the video came out 😂 it’s so easy to make and CHEAP and tastes so damn good with my version of seasonings.

We have been using Mountain House products for years! You always loose a little something in any freeze dried food but as far as freeze dried goes, Mountain House is by far the best on the market!!
