Garage Kitchen of Science I was looking at the Peak Refuel packages online and was just wondering, are they more compact than the Mountain House packages? I’m looking for packages that still have no artificial food, but will fit I. The secondary pocket on the 3 day assault pack that I bought for bush craft and camping trips.

Great comparison on all products. I really think mountain house and other vendors are stepping up there game due to competitors like Pack it gourmet and next mile meals. I just noticed as higher quality comes out they seem to improve and try to look new (Mountain house new packaging for example) . Basekamp just looked so bad but I am excited to try some Peak ReFuel products now!

For me, Peak is only batting about .500. Some of their stuff is pretty bad. I've tried seven or eight of their meals, and this is the only one I would recommend to go out and buy.

I feel like I just watched this video. A Stroganoff Extravaganza. Beef Stroganoff is probably my favorite Freeze Dried menu item. I'll keep an eye out for the Peak ReFuel version. Thanks for the comparison.

Thanks for the review. Looks like Peak might be replacing Mountain House. As a rule of thumb I almost double the wait time it says on the package while stiring inbetween and yes I do the same add a little more hot water.

Based on what I just received from Peak today, Peak best by date expires in 3 years. Mountain house best by is 25 years. Keep that in mind.

You have to add ketchup. I tried the Mountain House and put ketchup right in the bag, it changed the whole taste and it was delicious. Ketchup is the answer!

If I own a mirror or comb, I clearly am not using them. Geez. This was right before my surgery. Very possible I was not getting full blood flow to the thinking area of my body.

Cook these meals in a jet boil mini mo by putting in a little extra water and simmer and stir until perfect consistency. It’s a game changer. Cleaning is harder but you don’t have a gross bag of garbage for the rest of your trip.

I have yet to buy and try and peak brand. I am going to get a bucket I think and sample them out. I love mountain house and after a 4 month supply I think I should switch menus.

Really enjoyed this comparison. I have a bunch of mountain house stored away for emergencies. Was looking into other brands to add some variety and will try this peak refuel beef stroganoff based on your review. I'm also interested in Happy Yak and would welcome any reviews of happy Yak meals you as your comparison seemed really fair.

Happy Yak seems to get good reviews, but it is really difficult to find in the US. I have no experience with the product.

Personally I like peak the best out of those. Have you tried gastro gnome yet? You should. They don't have a very long shelf life but they're great. Try their bison chorizo breakfast entree. They also just came out with a biscuits and maple sausage gravy, among other good flavored entrees.

I have not heard of them. I will check it out. If you like great flavor and don't mind a short shelf life, Packit Gourmet is also a great choice.

I'm becoming a big fan of Peak Refuel ... I really like their Chicken Pesto Pasta. Anyway, at 7:45 you mention that you've had a couple of the Peak Refuel meals that you thought were total garbage. Curious which those are (so I can stay away from them lol). Good review, thanks for posting.

Trying to remember. I know for sure I did not like the Sweet and Sour Pork, and also pretty sure I did not like the three Bean Chili. I think there is one other that I don't like, but lately they have been pretty good (the new ones I have tried.) Another great one to try is the Stow Away Gourmet Comrade Doenganoff. Fantastic. I do most of this type of review on my other channel. Just posted this here to see if it would get views.
