A man was attacked by a mountain lion while sitting in an in-ground hot tub Saturday night, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

I love how they say: in case of an attack, fight back aggressively. Who needs to hear that? If a mountain lion is attacking you it’s no time for half measures or pulling your punches. That ain’t an angry kitty cat you’re dealing with. You better bring all you got.

Hornet spray is very good too. It sprays accurately for appx 6 ft and can slow a bear down. 🙏🏼

In some states the mentality is take the mauling, I stopped telling people that I hike armed because of all the 'its THEIR home' lectures. Mind you if a bear or cougar comes into the city/suburbs (Our home?) we are 1000% NOT allowed to harm them in any way

Ii was confronted by a mountain lion in my backyard with my two dogs. I raised my arms, screamed and yelled and then pulled my hand gun and shot one off. The lion bolted into the woods. Heh. Did I mention that I'm a little old lady? I never leave home without my Sig.

Wasn't there another case of mountain lion attack in Chaffee County in May 2020. I think it attacked a woman on her bike and dragged her up a mountain according to the husband, took her phone and charger also. Mountain lions are very clever in Chaffee County.

The best idea is to place your hot tub under a massive yellow pine tree with horizontal logs that make natural ambush spots for the big cats. I often sprinkle slaughterhouse blood over a wide area around my hot tub, just as an added inducement for some real excitement.

I heard story of a California jogger had to strangle mountain lion that jumped him but he killed it with his bare hands. When he walked out and found a ranger he was scratched up but nobody believed him so he went back and looked and the cat was dead. The guy in the hot tub needs to get himself a shotgun to keep next to it a couple large dogs and a taller fence.

Cougars are behaviourally a lot more like housecats than big cats, so they're usually pretty easy to scare off. But they do typically attack from behind, I reckon that one was likely a juvenile or in some way injured or elderly so it's desperate, they don't like to attack humans very much. Glad everyone's OK.

I agree. I think young, because he wasn't hurt much other than a few scratches. Makes me think it was a juvenile seeing a great opportunity but wasn't sure about how to go about it, especially with a human if it's never tried to attack one of us before. Cougar attacks are rarer than bears but on average tend to be more deadly thanks to the fact that they're usually going for the kill when they attack a human, whereas bears are usually being defensive and more trying to protect themselves than kill us.

I'm guessing the lion was accustomed to using the hot tub as a water bowl (assuming it's uncovered. Or maybe the steam got the cat curious, they're known for their curiosity)

Where I live DNR and Police swear they are not anywhere near here. Where my Dad used to live took 1.5 hours to drive there, but "as the the crow flies" it was only 42 miles according to google earth. They had been caught on trail cameras with plenty of reports near my dad's place, and the DNR and Police up there were telling people to be careful in that area. In fact a high tension power line crew working towards the back of my dad's property, came back and asked to borrow some guns as they saw one stalking them (they were not allowed to carry). Any ways, a few weeks after that I was up late (as I was working night shift) and I saw something that made me curious enough too walk outside (a passenger jet so low I could count the windows and the nearest airport is 30 miles). As I approached the end of the carport, I heard that distinct big cat growl from my right. It was that distinctive deep bass almost purr like growl, that all big cats have and unlike anything I had heard in all my years of deer hunting (about 27 as I started when 12 and this was when I was 39). I turned to the right and saw nothing and started backpedaling to the door, I heard it again and a thump as I approached the door. I just turned and pushed the door open (as I left it ajar) and closed it as I was two feet away. A few days later, who I live with got up around four AM and as they were using the bathroom, heard something outside the wall hissing and growling. I played a video of one doing that and their eyes widened, and they said "that is exactly what I heard". After that I borrowed one of dad's "tactical" 12 gauge pump shotguns, that I had loaded with triple ought buckshot on me anytime I went out at night. I also had to be on guard duty after who I lived with and her dog wanted to go out when she got home around 2 AM (it would not let me take it out at night). I also placed many trail cams around my little one acre plot here and the only cat I managed to catch is a neighbors... Here we usually heard coyotes running the woods nightly, during that time not a peep from them. It took a few months for them to return, so there was something that ran them off. Six years later, everything is normal and I just wish I had been able to show the DNR and Police they were wrong.
