Jessie... Those were some absolutely beautiful salmon. Usually when in Maine I'm fishing smallies, trout, but I've never specifically tried salmon fishing. Thinking this needs to change. Great video

Nice to find another Mainer out there bringing fishing content to KZbin. I am impressed with your number of subscribers..... I have been working my tail off for about sixteen months with minimal subscribers but I still love fishing and filming. Looking forward to settling in and binge watching these videos.

Was just there 6 days ago and landed a 22” male. On ironically, my variation of cone head wolly bugger that I’ve been tying up for 24 years. Caught a big Atlantic on it 23 years ago and been fishing it for salmon since. That place has some healthy salmon for sure!

I also keep and eat a fish here and there. I will also never release a dead or dying fish. On backcountry trips I actually rely on keeping a few. It helps keep weight down in the pack and and their are an over abunadance of fish

Gorgeous fish. When catching fish that size, it might be better to just not use an undersized net to prevent accidental injury to the fish. The net might make it easier to show the fish in a video, but it might also show better with a hand release. Also, you might want to experiment with circle hooks. They would be great for the Golden or Olive Retriever in that situation to reduce the chance of the fish taking the hook deep in the throat. With circles, you almost always hook them in the corner of the mouth. I have some extra hooks. Send me an email or call if you want me to send some. They also would be great for your saltwater ledge fishing. Bob
@MainelyOutDoors2 жыл бұрын
Good point, I use them on some of my hooks but not all of them because the options aren’t always there. The major problem with this fish was it engulfed it from the tail instead of hitting the head. pretty unusual for a larger fish. But I think it had to do with the position of the fly. I was getting ready to reset a roll cast and didn’t notice she was after it. As the fly picked up speed towards shore I think she just went for it as it as the size six fly was definitely not unmanageable for the size of her. Hopefully she's alright... definitely took away some of the thrill of this catch

@@MainelyOutDoors Sounds like a blast. I'm back to fishing after like 15 years of not. Man have I missed out. What river is this?
@Manzo2072 жыл бұрын
Hey, I know this is a fishing video, but northern Maine partridge season is going well. I was curious where you aim at a bird if it’s at the head neck or somewhere else. I talked to my father about this, he lives in Alaska and hunts grouse up there. And he says he places the bead of the shotgun right below the breast of the bird. So it’s almost like he’s aiming just underneath it since shotguns shoot high. He claims he hardly peppers the breast, so I wanted to get other’s opinions on this as well. Appreciate the content.
@MainelyOutDoors2 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I cant say I've ever shot one like that on purpose. Not that it wont work. What I do depends on the range of the bird. I'll shoot the head up close. the neck when its a bit farther, and the body on a reach shot. I shoot with a 20 and couldn’t say what range I change my target. I know my shotgun pretty well and just know what to target.
@Manzo2072 жыл бұрын
@@MainelyOutDoors I appreciate that, he’s been hunting birds like that for a while and has a good shot. I hunt with a 20 gauge as well. I’ve never heard of it either and have always aimed at the neck, so I will give it a try this weekend and let you know how it works out.
