Some of you people wouldn't know a survival video if it slapped you in the face! This was a short three day adventure, never intended to be a three month endurance survival episode so understand it for what it is. It is an example of short term survival with minimal equipment. In an unpredictable alpine situation in mountainous terrain, he made a buckskin poncho for clothing, found, identified, and ate several kinds of wild berries to obtain calories and nutrition, started a fire with a flint, cut firewood with a knife, and bathed nearly naked in a ridiculously cold 48 degree lake. My friends, as a certified dark water rescue diver who was on a fire department rescue team I have trained in water that cold wearing nothing but a pair of swim trunks as he did. That in and of itself is a challenging feat to pull off. Water that cold takes your breath away in mere seconds. And it is highly dangerous thing to do alone, even if you are trained for cold water and a skilled swimmer or free breathing diver. One needs to be in prime physical condition for attempting swimming in this kind of water. It's a heck of a way to just take a bath, that's for sure! No he didn't have to fight off a wolf bare handed or contend with an unexpected blizzard. He didn't have to set his own broken arm or hike 30 miles to get back to civilization. Gee whiz, does every survival or bush craft video have to be an epic adventure with drastic situations to prove it is a survival video? He didn't have to even catch and cook a fish for dinner but I fully believe he is well able to do so, using self made hooks and primitive cordage....or maybe a rock weir....or a woven basket style fish trap. The point is on a short trip such as this there was no need for him to demonstrate every possible survival technique or skill he knew. Part of the awesomeness of this video, or nearly any Alaska video, is just the ability to roam the countryside and capture stunning videography, which is a challenge in a primitive setting that is nowhere near as easy as he made this look. I give this video 5 stars! it's magnificent. And I have subscribed and look forward to more.

Damn! What an awesome comment! Especially reading all these other comments that have been hacking at my shins trying to bring me too my knees. It's true this was an easy adventure. I did get carried away with capturing all the beautiful scenery that I didn't have time to make a shelter but heck out was warmer than I expected it would be and didn't even need a shelter. When I go in an adventure I don't know what will happen. It's a documentary. I did see two bears but they ran off before I could even get my camera out. People expect a lot of drama but sometimes it all goes so smooth. I feel I shared some practical information with the berries and fire starting and carrying dried meat for protein. And yeah, swimming in the cold water is challenging. The coldest I've swam in was 39 degrees. I stayed in just two minutes. In this video I went in three times to get the various shots. Thanks again!

I love the respect you show to mother nature. As soon as someone disrespects or ignores her warning signs....Those are the ones you never hear from again! Takes skill what this guy does. Very meticulous in his approach to this wilderness. How he stops to access is good. But one thing your missing! You need a walking stick in AK! I never leave home, or I find one along my travels into the wilderness. It tells me if danger lies in front of me, acts as a 3rd leg. It saved my life before and I cannot do without when I'm out there!

Letting them get to you is equivalent to dropping to their level!- probably something you've heard your mom say a million times but it's time to believe it! She was right! I stumbled upon one of your vids yesterday and I've been fascinated and binging ever since!- I don't see any of your haters' vids with them risking life and limb to bring us dead serious survival scenarios and making it look easy! But I do see yours, bottom line. Keep calm and carry on, and leave the haters far behind you!

@@alexhamon9261 , public land doesn't belong to you... it belongs to the government and held in trust for the people to equally share pleasure in. No single individual has the right or authority to settle, remain to occupy, build upon or live in a permanent dwelling upon or alter any part of it without consent of the governmnet (or private owners on private lands) held in trust for the public. Public land might be everyone's parks to enjoy, but it isn't theirs to start makimg their own rules, building huts or cutting down tress at their own leisure or without regard to others it must be shared with. Otherwise, those that do that are no less selfish than they claim the government and private land owners to be. On public land, you have to deal with what other people don't like you doing there that disturbs them or the nature and purpose of the public place and you can be asked to leave, fined or imprisoned by the government, therfore... it does not belong to you or any other citizen entitled to be there. If public land truly belonged to you and the people, you actually could occupy it and live there permanently without another's permission or worry of what others thought about it. I know saying, "public land belongs to us all" sounds nice and fluffy to many people's bleeding heart but, it just isn't so to the degree many want to push it for their own particular use and causes.

I was born and have lived up here almost my entire life. Outside of 1 year, if you stitched all the months I spent away together, I have been in Alaska. My advice is that if you are out in the wilderness, always make a shelter before you go to sleep. It doesn't matter what season it is. In the summer, it is to make it a bit darker so you can sleep easier. In the fall and spring, to keep you, your firewood, and provisions dry, in the winter it is to keep the snow off you, and easier to stay warm. Unless a bear is actively stalking you, or you sneak up on it you have nothing to worry about. Simply back away slowly and deliberately with your arms raised unless you have a magnum. Moose and wolverines are what you have to worry about. Moose are unpredictable walking tanks. Unless you have trees to play merry-go-round with the Moose, don't walk up to them. If you see a wolverine, get out a weapon and keep it in site. That thing is more dangerous than the Moose and bears up here.
@zentark3605 жыл бұрын
Everything about this is beautiful. The real question is, though, did you get the squirts from all those berries? You probably have to watch your step every where you go, so as not to make jam. Goodness that was a lot of berries.
