@Sean Yang He passed away in his sleep on 8th Aug 2021 due to heart attack. He has been uploading the videos since 2000 when most of us were kids. His family is uploading the videos helping us to revisit his older videos. John is a virtual trainer for many. Rest In Peace John.

This could make a great series. Too often I’ll finish lifting and not feel the targeted muscle group. An “Activation Series” to incorporate into a warm-up would be awesome!

I have this video saved on my phones homepage to watch before every back session. Feeling my lats was always a problem until I found this. Even just the arm extension with internal rotation gets the blood pumping to the lats in seconds. Thank your John, rest in paradise

Finding this has been huge for me. I've been dealing with impingement and an out of place scapula in my right shoulder due to muscles not firing in my back. I can already feel the difference! Thank you!

I was on google today and looking up lat activation. Then of course your video is recommended so I look into. Did the first part of lat activation and it's incredible how simple but yet effective it is. Planning on doing back tomorrow and I wont be surprised others will be like "whats he doing" lol again thanks a lot John!

Just tried the lat activation for the first time with my workout. After the first 2, I could feel everything in my lats. I also dropped the weight and felt full contractions in my lat. I noticed when doing pullups, I wasn't feeling it as much until I did some negatives. This was great advice John and it's going to be part of my back program from now on. Thanks @mountaindog1!!

John really was the realest mf in the fitness scene. Wish we had more people like John here on Earth. Just a good person all round. Very rare that I have to mourn a person but John was definitely one of the best. All the best to his family and anyone watching his late videos. The guy was a treasure trove for the bodybuilding scene and will never be forgotten.

Lats are definitely what I had trouble with activating til I watched this video. I didnt even need the second step... now I feel my lats every time I do lat pull downs which I didnt before!! Thanks man

I HAVE NEVER FELT MY LATS UNTIL TODAY. A simple elbow tuck with internal rotation and the whole thing lit on fire. Oh my god such a power contraction

I did this warm up minus the barbell twice this week and it absolutely changed my back workout. Very effective is an understatement. Thank you for all the info you offer up.

OMG, I was laying in bed and stand up to try it. I only tried the first one and once I pulled in my elbow towards my spine, I felt the cramp you mentioned. Barely stood the 5 seconds hold. Awesome! Looking forward to trying it out tomorrow before hitting back. Thank you!

RIP. Thank you. A couple of weeks ago I suddenly can't push anything or pull from overhead down. Checking I realized that my left lats is not activating. I could barely do 25% of any lift prior. This allowed me to get back little by little.

John, do a video on Lower Back activation before Rack Pulls, Deadlifts, or Hyper Extensions. Or, any safety movements before these exercises for better blood flood, or non injury.

For my first 4 years of training I had trouble with having great chest congestion. But as for back I've always felt it incredibly, now after 8 years I get cramps on my back just after the first set of my first exercise (often seated cable rows) loving the rom on this exercise

I have been working my right (dominant) lat due to imbalance with my left (non-dominant). After watching your video and trying it out, I feel it when I do my right lat. I really love your videos.
