You won't get far as a backpacker if you don't have tremendous levels of patience and a very positive outlook of the world. There will be places where you won't get a lift even after trying the entire day or heck you may not even come across any car in many desolate places and you might have to camp by the roadside for the night but that's what backpacking is all about. You get a different perspective of the world, the way the locals live their lives and that's an experience you can never get as an ordinary tourist who is ready to plonk down cash for the best possible services and luxury everywhere.

Is quite difficult to find a ride from truck drivers. many of them have anti-social behaviors, and most of them are company drivers so legally they can't have anyone in their trucks. and they have to get approval for family members. and those that do have the ability to do so it can be a liability to accept riders. but none the less there are some out there that will do it. but you are probably best by going on craigslist and find a ride that way. also make a sign that you are looking for a ride. but i am curious what makes you want to go hitch-hiking in the US? and do you know about couch surfing?

Dear hitchhiking is not very common in the US. Especially with truck drivers because of 1) insurance Liability 2) DOT Department of Transportation is very very strict on Truck drivers and 3)Truck Scales on the Highway (if extra person caught in the truck on weight scales than the company can be in big big trouble. How the other two drivers gave you a ride was totally dependent on them but had they have been caught it would have been a different story. But our truck drivers in the US from the indo-pak region maybe happy to take you along... But again same rules and laws apply to them...

Kaushal Manda There’s a difference in being polite when someone says hello, and then giving a stranger a ride in your car. You have to understand that a lot of homeless people stand around gas stations asking for money, and some aren’t even homeless. They just try to get money. Also, picking up hitchhikers is dangerous. They can carry guns and kill you, rob you, kidnap you, steal your car, etc. People don’t want to take hat chance or be bothered with it. I try to ignore people like that who approach me too - I don’t want them bothering me, asking for money or a ride that I have no intention of giving them.

The pop culture also to blame in US where there are too many bad consequences of hitchhiking. Either the traveler or the driver. As Barat KK mentioned, try using the word “backpacker” makes a difference and also quick for them to get the whole idea. It simplifies the part for them “कहिँ भि towards that general direction”. Doesn’t raise eyebrows. “KZbinr” is also good which you already use. Everyone understands that nowadays.

I was traveling east from New York I did travel with a guy but, this was 15 years ago & it was very difficult getting rides. We got to Massachusetts from New York and back but , it was difficult then & I see it’s been tough for you. If you’re going to return to New York it would be nice as I think more people in New York are friendlier than other parts of the USA. I could be wrong but, everything in the states is changing rapidly. People are scared these days as there’s so much crime. I wouldn’t attempt hitchhiking any longer. Good luck 👍 and May God protect you while you do your travels. Greetings from mew

When you ask abruptly “where are you going” or in last video when you asked “can I ask you where are you going”, ppl will mostly say NO. Your intention is Pure but ppl may take it as intrusive and offending. Why would someone share their plan and destination with a stranger in a country like US where crime rate is so high and illegal immigrants are there roaming around. Better way to ask may be “I’ll appreciate if you can give me a ride till...” or “If I may pls ask where are you heading so that I can get a ride till.... as I am a KZbinr and visiting US as hitchhiker... Secondly so many ppl don’t know what is hitchhiking so you may have to use an easier word. Again, appreciate your efforts and videos, I may not be able to do this. Just wanted to help you a little.

This is my first day watching your videos and I must say really good content. I have been to various treks in my life and have had experience of hitchhiking but that's nothing compared to you. I wish you were in the US right now because I have recently moved from Dallas to Washington DC and i drove all the way through Arkansas, Tennessee, and Virginia. It would have been my pleasure to give a ride to D.C. and hook you up with someone who was traveling from DC to Boston. And yes, as you have rightly mentioned, America could be little tricky when it comes to talking to the strangers and it is mostly because of the cultural difference.

Kindly ask you a question, which country you found more friendly USA or Russia ? Please reply, I have been watching your videos since you had just over 1 lakh subscriber.

i think some of them refused because the trucks are not theirs but the companies they work for and the company policy probably say something like "do not pick hithhikers during a work/assignments. maybe?

Hey how about making business cards (with QR code) for your KZbin channel and handing them out to people that you ask rides for? I guess, after opening your channel on their phones they may be convinced...
