Oh I dunno....you and I do okay on the phone. Not great, but with my mush-mouth, its a miracle anyone understands me at all, ever. S'matter of fact, you actually understand me better than most on the phone, so don't sell your ears short, my friend. Love the radio! Been thinking of installing one on my chair. But maybe just carrying the Baofeng UV-5R is the best option there. I do have the scanner and a way older desktop (non-mobile) CB in the pantry/bunker. and they get a lot of use.

Holy crap, finally someone mentions the same thing I deal with everyday - stupid masks when you have a hearing impairment. I lost half my hearing in the desert and if someone's mouth is not moving, I may not even know they are talking. In crowded or "echo heavy" areas I even read lips (not great, but had been working on it for a long time). Still trying to figure out why hearing issues are still considered the "bastard child" of "impairments." Oh, you can be blind, wear glasses, have one arm, one leg, and all other sorts of issues and people are patient and respectful. If you have a hearing issue, they are temperamental and mean. I'm to the point that as soon as I "stop hearing" someone, I just walk away - don't care if it is rude or not. The folks I know are used to it. Not going to lie, I use it to my advantage sometimes too :)

Everyone I know, knows I can’t here them with other noises present (tv,machinery, traffic, fan, dishwasher) they know if they want me to hear them, they have to turn other stuff off or talk way louder than any other noise that may be present. It’s aggravating for everyone including me.

Enjoyed watching you work on the project. Enjoyed the ride back to your house. Makes me wish I could do the same here. However, I don't have anywhere that isn't routinely patrolled by both town & county law enforcement. (There's a spot about a mile from my house that's a known meeting place for several different reasons on municipality owned property.) BTW, Like your creativity with the antenna mount. Hope you and yours have a blessed weekend.
@bctruck4 жыл бұрын
I’ve messed with this thing all day trying to adjust my set down I ran a heavy ground from right beside the antenna mount location down to the frame, tweaked and tuned the antenna all afternoon. Still the service is very high on 40 and within reason on 1. I’m beginning to suspect that I have no ground plane since the roof is plastic and so is the dump bed. I give up for the time being. Tomorrow I wire up the add on lights and the gator is done.

Nice, how well does the squelch work? Thats one of the things I like about the FRS radios, that signal (or lack therof) is processed out. Thats about the same size as the radio in my RTV, My antenna is about four inches tall though, that fire stick would never make it into (or more importantly, out of my garage) Unless I got a military style tie down hook. I really need an external speaker for mine, same problem....

i'm kind of surprised it doesn't have blue tooth so you can use a headphone set. Does it get into the FRS band? That would be a good idea. I'm thinking of making a frequency card and distributing it around my neighborhood to like minded people before the fall. I ran into two zombies yesterday during my walk. Luckily it was early but they were tucked into some bushes behind a house next to a green belt. Usually they don't come up this far to the neighborhoods so it was disconcerting. Where there's 2 there's more. Never understand how they can afford all those tats but not food or shelter. Keep your powder dry.
@bctruck4 жыл бұрын
I’ve only had one zombie walk down my clearly marked dead end street. He was looking over my fence and gate trying to figure out if it was worth the risk. I jumped on the gator and took off after him. I assured him that coming back would be a very bad decision. I haven’t seen him again but like you said, where there’s one, there’s more.

@@greghomestead8366 not most owner ops. You own the truck and lease your truck and services as driver to a company that has their own trailers. There are independent owner ops that own their own trailers, but then they have to find their own freight, and freight is highly cyclical. It’s hard to absorb slow periods. If you lease just your truck to a company, you have the benifit of year round work,albeit a lower amount of money per mile you also benifit from cheaper fuel, maintenance .,insurance and even tire purchases.
