Man, that skin is incredibly flexible. I’ve skinned dozens of congas and bongos, and never had that easy a time.

Just mounted Monito skins on a conga and a tumbau using this video as a guide. Made the fixtures out of wood on hand and bought some clamps. Total time spent was less than one hour and there was no difficulty at all and I have never done this before. Thank you so very much for posting your technique. Nobody should be dissuaded from using plain skins for their drums if they follow this excellent guide.

Did you soak it first?
@gregdrummer79123 жыл бұрын
@@fredericinduni Yes, I soaked the skins overnight (about 10 hours) which may have been longer than necessary but the skins were not harmed by a long soak.

This looks so much easier than any other video I've seen. It makes me want to take the dive and do it myself!

Thanks for the great tips! I’ve been having trouble making a nice clean cut to trim the excess skin. I’ve just been using a Stanley knife. I think I’ll go out and buy a carpet knife! How did you modify it for the job?

I grind the back side of the carpet blade, then de-burred on a second higher grit wheel.

@5:02 "Over the course of the drying period, I applied quarter inch turns to the lugs to arrived at a neck height of 3/4 of an inch" My question is: How often do you apply these turns? Every hour, 2 hours...? Thank you!

Every 24 hours- enough to keep the skin from forming a dip in the middle
