I grew up in a neighborhood that is 2 miles as the crow flies from Mt. Vernon. It was originally "Muddy Hole Farm" which was originally part of Washington's estate and bordered land owned by George Mason - another founding father. Growing up I frequently hiked a couple of square miles of a densely wooded area that encompasses both. There are still a number of very large trees back in that area that date back to Washington and Mason's time.

I bought a wooden vase from Mt Vernon. It was from a tree that dated back to the 1700's and fell during a thunderstorm on July 6, 2020, the day my father died.

Are these existing trees dated by archival records and/or other methods? Apparently the poplars outside the garden gates are documented, but was wondering about others you’ve mentioned, such as the Chestnut Oak from 1683. Thanks so much. Interesting and valuable work by your staff.

Is it possible to get seeds from the trees? Do you sell them?
