Unfortunately since his spell at Inter he didnt get the players who would put the same effort as they did at Inter not that he has not been successfull. At Madrid it was all politics and players interested in their own good rather than the teams ( Casillas Ramos etc ). At chelsea it was the same, players getting tired of the manager asking them to perform at a high level so they predictably down the tools and get him fired. With that saying it has not been perfect from his side at his last two clubs as he could improve and innovate and what better place to get back to the top than at Manchester United.

Reason that it's JOSE > pep. Is because Mourinho has won the Champions League in 2 different Countries with 2 teams who were not amongst the favourites to win in Europe. Pep inherited a Barca Team already with great players and Lionel Messi at his peak along with being able to buy players where he wanted. Any decent coach could manage that team and win at least one C.L title if they were there a few years. Both him and Luis Enrique won the Treble in their first season which just goes to show what can happen when you inherit a ready-made squad. At Bayern he inherited a team that had reached back to back C.L finals and still wasn't able to get them back there in 3 seasons. Winning the Bundesliga 3 times is hardly a mega achievement as Bayern have won it 14 out the last 20 seasons so it's hardly a hugely competitive league for a new manager to come into.At Porto, Inter, (Chelsea in part) and now United. Jose had to build squads as well as bringing success and trophies alongside. At Madrid you can argue he inherited Ronaldo, but he still managed to break the Barca Bandwagon in 2011-2012 despite them actually having a better defence and Messi still scoring 50 goals in the league that season he relishes a challenge to make teams who aren't doing great, great again. Unless Pep manages to win a Treble at City he can't compare to what Mourinho has achieved over the course of a career with different clubs.

Playing style, team mate's stadium crowd etc. C.Ronaldo is very dynamic; he Had to adjust A lot to change's. I say this Because year's ago I Watched C/R7 first year's in EPL he was adapting to change, I remeber watching game's and seeing Ronaldo still looking to fit in the style of play, and find his correct position on the team - That time of adjustment impeded, on scoring Goal's and his Career, Just like it is with Coutiniho at Barca, Right now his Career is at a stand still, and his performance is below average because he is still adjusting. That being said we can Agree that Messi not having his career impeded on, has benefited him.
