As sad as this is, there are some valuable lessons to be learned. 1.) please get life insurance. When I was younger, I witnessed too many collection plate requests when loved ones died because in my family, no one had life insurance. Since then, I keep insurance policies on myself and close family members because the lack or absence of money is the last thing you want to think about when a loved one dies. 2.) Through the grief, you (or someone you trust) must read and understand the fine print of everything you sign. What she said he said is inconsequential when it comes to what’s actually in writing in black and white. On the document, it clearly stated he wasn’t licensed so what’s in writing supersedes any verbal gibberish she said he said 3.) if the price is too good to be true, you’re probably gonna get subpar services and/or goods. May God restore this mother’s mental and emotional health.

No tag on the cremains is a huge red flag. A tag should always be with them to identify the deceased. And I'm pretty sure DNA can not be detected. His mom will never know for certain. That sicko deserved more jail time.

Also, i feel this mother, i lost my brother April 25th 2019 and life has been very different. My aunt and i were also his embalmers, we are actually certified to do our work and then he tries to hide under the Pastor mantle. Then he screwed up the man's birth year...2984? Her son passed the day before what would have been my brother's 41st birthday. As someone who do work in the funeral home (certified too) yes they can, it can be tested in a few ways as long as some DNA is present. However, once remains are cremated then it cannot be tested as cremains are just grounded up bone fragments and that holds no viable DNA.

Do you have loved ones such as close friends, siblings and parents? I hope they all live long healthy lives. But GOD FORBID something happens. Their funeral is their last time you’ll ever physically see them… the last time you’ll say goodbye. Wouldn’t you want that event to be planned as accordingly as possible? Especially with a real funeral home? The wrong music was totally a big deal. What if she requested to play her sons favorite songs? These may not seem like “nightmare” issues to you, But to take thousands of dollars from a grieving mom who just wanted a few simple requests fulfilled to honor her son one last time is not only extremely disrespectful to the family, but to the deceased as well. Many of you who may not have been through huge losses yet really don’t understand how important it is for funeral directors to plan and execute exactly the way the family intends to celebrate. This man deserves way more than 12 years in prison. He needs life. He was trusted with not only directing an extremely delicate and emotional event, but he was trusted with the BODIES. He stored so many loved ones away in a building like they weren’t human beings who had life on this earth. To find out your mom dad brother or sister was handled with such disregard is devastating. And some like Ms Weatherspoon have to live the rest of their lives not knowing if those are really her sons ashes. To take money from all these families and then scar and destroy their already damaged lives is pure evil and inhumane.
