I know this was three years ago, BUT STILL, no one responded yet =). Training with certain instruments--like flute and voice--necessitates learning different breathing techniques to hold notes for long periods of time. Singers also don't breathe through our nose to sing (or really at all, it's become a force of habit for me). We breathe with our diaphragm. Put your hands at the base of your rib cage, with your thumbs on your sides, and your fingers curving in towards each other. When you breath, your fingers should pull away. When you exhale, they should come back to each other. We focus everything on the core, and build our internal muscles. And I don't mean this as like to show off or anything, but that particular note is actually not held for very long, to give you an example. Most singers who work really hard at this can sing for a minute straight without breathing. Additionally. Sometimes songs are written with very little time to breathe in the middle, too, not just the end. So, we have to be able to hold our breaths for really, really long, and also find creative ways to sneak breaths in there, because sometimes, we have to go for a long, long time. I do sing on my channel, if you're interested, but if you aren't, I can give you examples and other resources that aren't mine.
