Having this knowledge, I don't understand why these products aren't reformulated into a "new and improved version?" Essentially, every one of them are bad for our teeth and gums yet that's all you see out there. I never even heard of the ones you mentioned, but am sure going to check them out. It seems our FDA (if that is the organization that decides which products are acceptable) is failing us and doing us harm in almost every way.

@sophiacromwell80173 ай бұрын
@@ceciliapreziose3783I’ve used it to feel more confident about my breath & to “help” reduce (or hopefully stop) receding gums…. Occasionally I use peroxide to rinse with, but mostly Listerine or Biotene (sometimes Crest because it doesn’t sting). Biotene doesn’t help for breath (and never really helped me for dry mouth, that’s why I switched to the non-alcohol version of Crest and a few times a month would use Peroxide as a form of “deep cleaning”). I can say that my allergies (& post nasal drip) do make me feel more insecure about bad breath… although when I go to the dentist, they tell me that my mouth isn’t “malodorous” (yes, I ask them!). I can’t take more allergy meds (due to side-effects) and thought I was doing the right thing with the mouthwash. I’ve heard that gum with xylitol is supposed to be good for teeth & gums, but I’m not really into chewing gum… as a hygienist, do you have an opinion about gum with xylitol & how it might impact your teeth/ gums? Dentists and dental hygienists frequently have differences of opinion on products. Peridex (Chlorhexidine gluconate) is a prescription rinse, that has been used for years, but is falling out of favor with the rise of newer products, largely due to its staining side effects. You should absolutely follow the advice of your provider, but generally speaking, that rinse is intended for the short term, not the long term. As long you use it as directed, erosion is unlikely.

Asking out of curiosity, and also because I just bought a 3 pack of crest from Sam’s
@DentistrywithDerik2 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the acidic environments created by frequent snacking and sipping of foods/beverages. Rinsing with water after a snack or an acidic beverage is the easiest way to neutralize your saliva's pH levels, and is something I encourage all my patients to do. There really is no reason to add further causes for erosion in an acidic mouthwash which is why i only recommend rinses that are pH+. The damage might be minor, but it will be cumulative. My goal is help patients keep their teeth for a lifetime. Hope that answers your question :)

I am not understanding this. Why is the pH of something you swish around in your mouth for thirty seconds relevant at all? What is the baseline pH of your mouth, and how long will the duration of the pH change within your mouth after use of a mouthwash be? What about the pH of food and drinks? How would the significance of a low pH mouthwash compare to basic eating and drinking throughout the day? Should people not consume citrus fruits whatsoever?

Hii not sure if u still replying to comments, but I plan on getting the “Hello gingivitis Mouthwash” i want to prevent my receding gums from getting worse. It has aloe Vera and coconut oil in it, no alcohol in it as well. Do you think it’s safe for my teeth and gums and low ph?
@DentistrywithDerik2 жыл бұрын
My best recommendation for gum issues is first seeing a qualified dental hygienist and using Closys toothpaste/rinse.

@@DentistrywithDerikhow effective are salt water gargles? How long / often can you use them? After a teeth clean I was told to rinse as gums were but swollen. She didn’t say how long for. It seemed to be indefinite / until next visit. Which is months away. Won’t this erode enamel? Thank you

Which mouth wash best for damon braces?
@DentistrywithDerik2 жыл бұрын
Carifree CTX3. Many patients with braces experience demineralization around their brackets -- this can help to minimize it. (Good choice on the Damon braces btw, I used them for my ortho treatment)

A question regarding Closys and sites listing tooth staining. ?? I really like the Closys but in looking it up online some sites mention tooth staining as a "common" side effect. What is that about? I have stopped using it because I don't want staining. Can you clear this up? Thank you.
@DentistrywithDerik8 ай бұрын
You’re welcome to forward me the information from those sites, but Closys not only does not stain, it can actually mildly improve the appearance of your teeth.

Can you please help with concerns to products in South Africa... Cause half of the products mentioned in the video are not found locally in south africa
@DentistrywithDerik2 жыл бұрын
I wish I could. Unfortunately I don’t have access to product lines in South Africa. They best thing I can recommend in this circumstance is to avoid any containing alcohol or test them with a pH testing strip.

I have been using Crest gum health mouthwash for about two months and my already sensitive teeth have started hurting in the last week. If I stop using these will my teeth go back to the way they were or is the damage already done and they will always hurt like this now? I'm so upset that I did something I thought was good for me and it made everything worse. 😭

If the cause was the rinse, switching to a pH+ rinse will help
@BRIANDER1009 ай бұрын
if 2 of these have the same active ingredients - then how is the ph level different ?
@DentistrywithDerik9 ай бұрын
It can be different for two primary reasons: 1. Formulation Differences: The presence of other ingredients can affect the final pH. These could include buffers, stabilizers, flavoring agents, sweeteners, and other active ingredients intended to target different oral health issues. 2. Concentration of Active Ingredient: The concentration of the active ingredient can influence the pH. Higher concentrations might require adjustments in the formula to maintain a pH that’s safe and comfortable for oral tissues.

I just bought Listerine and ACT a week ago to start a system recommended by another Dentist. I also bought Closys too. The Listerine and ACT will have to be trashed, thankfully they didn't cost much. What is your thoughts on Xylitol? And what toothpaste do you recommend? I'll look and see if I can find some info on your other videos.
@DentistrywithDerik Жыл бұрын
Xylitol is an alcohol sugar that cavity-causing bacteria cannot metabolize. Using it in dental products is a safe way of reducing cavity risk. Just know it is toxic to dogs.

That’s a great question! Sadly a lot of providers don’t give it much thought and worse the companies that make these products heavily leverage their influence in dental offices.
