Congratulations! A new Era! Love you for sharing these moments! I can't believe I agree with your hubby on the curtains! Waking up with the natural light is healthy and will help him in the long run for alot of phycological reasons! So happy for you

Hey Kerina, I think if you get black out curtains get some blinds to go under because sometimes you wanna have light during the day but not glaring at you. Or maybe your son wants privacy from the world but like still needs to see during the day. I have a road facing room and I live next to three schools. When I wake up in the morning I open my curtains for the light, but I hate having people stare at me in my room. So blinds under my curtains have been really helpful.

Beautiful and elegant house! You did a fantastic job with the curtains! I grew up in Spain and most of the flats have wooden blinds and curtains, so it's basically completely dark when you sleep. Then I moved to the UK a long time ago, and discovered blinds and curtains are not so common here, so I first couldn't sleep at all, and now I've got thick curtains in the bedroom but not blackout curtains, and I can still sleep, but whenever I visit my family in Spain I still sleep better, like a baby! I think blackout curtains/combination of wooden blinds + curtains definitely give you better quality sleep, especially these days when everyone uses phones and computers and our body's capacity to naturally fall asleep seems to be getting worse. So, I would do this for my bedroom if I could, but here wooden blinds + curtains are crazy expensive. You could also even install double layer roller curtains which would change the filter of light depending on the season/time of the year. But it's all more complicated than just putting one layer and hoping for the best 😂

I had wooden blinds but they're super expensive to install here in Canada! but yea those also would look amazing I agreee

I am just like you, could not sleep without pitch black room and earplugs and I am trying to gradually loose the earplugs and I changed to lighter curtains and I love, I find it easier to get up in the morning when it's not too dark! I think the ones you got right now will be perfect!

Hi Kerina, I don't know how it works in Canada but here in Italy roll-up shutter are installed on all windows and balconies so the curtains only have a decorative function! we simply lower the roll-up shutter in the evening and raise it in the morning when we wake up

I go with Peter's opinion. As a man you can not sleep with earplugs and in a very dark room only. You have to protect your Family, and when there's no danger you can fall asleep, where ever you are. My husband can sleep everywhere and is awake with every unusual noise, I feel very safe in his compagnion. Excuse my english, it's so bad, but I hope you get my point 😂. Very nice Home, Kerina ❤

We bought blackout curtains b/c our neighbor's have a hella bright light that comes on at night. I didn't have them when I grew up out in the middle of nowhere, but they def help. Also, a sleeping mask (which I also use) is a good option. Also, my husband can sleep standing up in a bowling alley. So, he doesn't care, LOL.

LMAO at the bowling alley standing up too! 😂😂😂😂😂

Sorry Kerr, I have to go with Pete on this one. You’ll want Lucas to be able to fall asleep without relying on special aids like black out curtains or ear plugs. I personally would go with plantation shutters. You can control the amount of light that enters the space and you don’t have to worry about dust and allergens. Just my thought. Congratulations on your new home.

@@KerinaWangThat not true though it is proven that people have better sleep quality in dark rooms and it doesn’t take the ability to sleep in a light room I always had black out curtains and can sleep when it’s bright same goes for my boyfriend it depends on ur own body

I did not grow up with black out curtains. The curtains at my parent's house were fabric and blocked out about 90% of the light during the day. I never had any trouble sleeping at night due to the lighting when I was a kid, and now as an adult I'm able to sleep in low daylight if I need a nap or something. I feel that I would be so annoyed if I was only able to fall asleep when it's pitch black.

As an insomniac who is woken up by pretty much everything... I wouldn't get black out curtains for a kid. I generally live in the middle of a city and never have complete darkness here and it's bad for falling asleep, but I also used to sleep in a room without windows. Falling and going back to sleep was great. Waking up was a nightmare tho, you absolutely want to wake up with the sun. And it's true that you get used to the darkness so fast you can no longer sleep well without it.

Also, for your son’s room you can get some fun light-refracting film to put in the arch window. It will filter the light, add privacy and throw rainbows around. Who doesn’t need rainbows?

In terms of curtains, my daughter never had them and she always would just fall asleep wherever if she were tired. So I don't see the reason to get them used to it. Regular curtains should be just enough.
@mariacastillo412110 ай бұрын
I'm siding with Peter here because It's simply better to not make him reliant on certain things to go to sleep. That way he can fall asleep easier without being so dependent on outside factors.

I agree with your husband, most people did not have them when they were kids. Plus sleeping wtih ear plugs is not good you have a child plus if a fire happens or your son yells for you are night.
