Good advice. I saw a video of an apartment to buy in Italy. When I went to see it in person, it looked nothing like the video. Matter of fact it was a dump…needed a lot of work. Patio/ balcony was barely holding on by metal braces. Amazing difference. Didn’t think it could be that different.

Thanks for another wonderful episode. I realize that if I spoke English (and pretended that I had a Portuguese accent) people were able to understand me better. It was almost funny and fun at the same time.

Thanks Rafael for all the great tips. In particular, appreciate points relative to: neighborhood of your apartment (not just the apartment itself), double pane windows 🪟(noticed mention mostly in newer/rehabbed places), annual rent increases (wasn’t aware 😲), and shipping options. 🚢 Cheers.

Yeah the rent increase thing was a bit of a surprise, thankfully it’s regulated by the government… but still unfortunate

I've been looking at Italian listings since early in the pandemic when I got the itch to maybe move to Italy and will only finally be getting back there to check out neighborhoods like you recommend doing. People kept hounding me to "just do it" to buy a place but I'm not that guy. Your old town of Rovigo is on my list (primarily because of finding you and liking their rugby team). In your opinion, were there less desirable parts there? (hoping to just bump into Marco when I make it to town)

I'm not a lawyer or any kind of legal expert... but I'd imagine there wouldn't be a way to exchange one for the other. They're separate countries and I would assume it might be necessary to go through the visa application process from the beginning if you want to relocate to Portugal.

When it comes to purchasing a home, I’ve consistently have a heard to negotiate down the price. In your experience, how much is reasonable (generally speaking) without offending the owner?
@RafaelDiFuria2 жыл бұрын
I’d speak to your agent (if they’re not also representing the owner) and ask for their advice, each situation may differ and someone familiar with that specific location will be able to guide you to figure out the best value based on the area and other factors that go into the value

@@RafaelDiFuria Yeah, I realize that’s a tough question to answer because there’s so many different factors. I guess I was just wondering if there’s some cultural norm I wasn’t aware of where it’s normal for a property owner to ask 15-20% more than market rate as a starting point for bargaining. Thanks!
